We’ve been brushing our teeth all our lives, so you’d think by now we’d have it perfected. But surprisingly, not many of us are getting it right. In fact, our survey in May 2015 revealed that 47% of Brits confessed to not knowing how to brush their teeth properly. And a shocking 29% admitted to not even using toothpaste when they brush.

Here are some tips from our experts on how we should really be taking care of our teeth, some of which may surprise you.

The ideal blob of toothpaste should be no bigger than a pea
Change your toothbrush every 3 months, or sooner if the bristles are worn down
Brush twice a day, and wait at least 20 minutes after eating anything acidic before you brush
Use floss or interdental brushes at least once a day before brushing to clean between your teeth
Wait at least 30 minutes after brushing before you use mouthwash.
