Alignment and realignment of political forces are in top gear in as the major political parties prepare for the November 26 governorship election that will usher in the next occupant of Alagbaka Government House in Akure, the Ondo State capital at the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko on February 24 next year.

Like it happened in the 2012 governorship election in the Sunshine State, candidates cutting across the three senatorial districts are in the race to succeed Mimiko, whose eight-year tenure ends next year.

Mimiko, then of the Labour Party(LP), Chief Olusola Oke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) contested the election. Mimiko, who is from Ondo West Local Government Area in Ondo Central Senatorial District, won the election. Oke, from Ilaje in Ondo South zone came second while Akeredolu, who hails from Owo in Ondo North, came third.
