.......breaking into his compound with a sledgehammer?? Why? He was not even present according to the report. Is he a terrorist? Was he resisting arrest? Did he have militants securing his compound? I am still trying to understand why the use of such level of force and destruction just to gain access. This country is gradually practicing jungle justice. |

As regards arrest warrant in Nigeria . . . Section 24 of the Police Act, provides that a police officer can lawfully arrest without warrant in the following cases – 1. Any person whom he finds committing any felony, misdemeanour or simple offence; 2. Any person whom he reasonably suspects of having committed or of being about to commit any felony, misdemeanour or breach of the peace; 3. Any person whom another has charged with having committed a felony or misdemeanour; 4. Any person whom another suspects of having committed a felony or misdemeanour ; 5. Any person whom another has charged with having committed a simple offence. It should be noted that a felony means an offence on conviction for which a person can, without proof of his having been previously convicted of an offence, be sentenced to death or to imprisonment for three years or more, or which is described by law to be a felony. A misdemeanour is an offence, which on conviction; a person may be punished by imprisonment for not less than six months but not more than three years. A simple offence is an offence which is neither a felony nor a misdemeanour. It is just any category of offence which on conviction a person cannot be sent to terms of imprisonment up to six months. According to the above, it seems a police officer can arrest without an arrest warrant every time. 1 Like |

westluska: That's how you serve a warrant. You first knock, if they refuse to open, you proceed to gain entry with high prejudice. There are certain things a judge does during a trial which immediately betrays his partiality. Watch THE VERDICT with Paul Newman. Corrupt judges are despicable human beings. Ever wondered how someone can use public funds to build a personal mansion and doesn't go to jail? I know you have. We've become DESENSITIZED to the cycle of cronyism and embezzlement. Time to remind judges that no one is above the law. 2 Likes |

OpinionCounts: They probably had a warrant to collect evidence from the property. You're not supposed to give them time to hide the incriminating materials. In his case, they're mostly documents or hard drive. 2 Likes |

Firstly, are these reports credible? If they are, what warranted the actions of the security agencies? Could they have acted in a better way, given the circumstances that led to their action? These are questions that we need to answer before we throw stones at any quarter. In what instances does the law allow the security agents to arrest a serving judge Or force entry into their homes with or without a formal search or arrest warrant? Have these judges been under prior investigation by the judicial Council and have been found culpable, hence the move against them? Could the move against them in the dead of the night mean that the security agencies are trying to keep the developments away from the media so as not to compromise the investigation? So many unanswered questions and until someone comes out to provide some answers, we cannot afford to make personal judgments and accusations and exchange insults like we're not learned. Let's keep observing and following developments until we know more to say more. This isn't a case of Who's right or wrong, it's a case of facts against speculations. 1 Like 1 Share |

HungerBAD: A most foolish way to fight corruption. Fight corruption by Decentralizing political and economic powers to the regions or states so that every region or state shall use what it has to develop its people and pay tax to a tiny central government - thus leaders be closest and accountable to the people. Fight Nigeria's corruption by making northern Nigeria agree to Political restructuring of Nigeria, to such that Abuja huge central govt shall no more be the rent-seeking, largess-giving group of Nigerians who are far removed from the electorate, thus are not accountable to the electorate - as they are now. If you people continue to refuse to tell yourselves the truth about causes of corruption in Nigeria, because you want northern Nigeria led by Fulani that propagates your Islam to continue to dictate the tunes in Nigeria, then forget about Nigeria growing to nationhood and prosperity. 1 Like |

HungerBAD: this is not a jungle bro, if they have overstepped their boundaries, the government should make recourse to the National Judicial Council & other regulatory bodies. If this is true, it is a shameful display of lack of regard for the rule of law by the government. See the mess the economy is in 1 Like |

What exactly is the mandate of DSS. I hear people say the judges are corrupt, they are critical about alleged human right abuses of the DSS and all that. I ask then, even if they are corrupt, is it the DSS that should handle their cases? I hope the president's disdain for democratic tenets will not cause a big problem in Nigeria. |
