Members of A'IBOM 5000 TEACHERS, employed in 2015 by the State Government but have not been given posting to their various work stations today staged a protest at Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly premises.

Below is the sad tales of the A'Ibom 5000 teachers who are yet to receive their posting letters...

In Akwa Ibom State, credit must be given to past administrations for their contribution to the growth of education in the state, most importantly the free and compulsory education floated by the administration of Dr. Godswill Akpabio, as well as the present administration led by His Excellency Mr Udom Emmanuel for sustaining the policy as well as other lofty educational inputs of his administration.
Education is not complete without teachers and the quality of knowledge and height attained is not as a result of school name but due to the quality of teachers that impact on the student. This is because a teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way for others and if there was anything like "wage justice", teaching would have been the highest paid profession in the world.
To the crux of the matter, teachers in Akwa Ibom State are not fairly treated despite being the bedrock and carriers of all potentials and here is, and the most pathetic is the plight of the (2015) 5000 EMPLOYED TEACHERS. Their case is so pathetic that even the heavens weep daily on their behalf.
In taking us down memory lane, it could be recalled that the process that culminated to the engagement of these group of teachers by the state government commenced on 30th September 2013 with the issuance and submission of application forms, thereafter, series of interviews (oral and written) were conducted and the final shortlisting of successful applicants. Premised on the aforesaid, necessary administrative documentation exercise was held from the 2nd day of February 2015 through the 1st of April 2015 at Aka Community Secondary School, Aka Offot and Community Secondary School, Ikot Okubo, Uyo respectively. Also to ascertain the medical fitness on these teachers who will undertake the enormous and daunting task of teaching, nurturing and mentoring, they were dispatched to government hospitals to undertake compulsory medical examination. After the successful completion of these rigorous but important procedural administrative requirements, they were considered fit and proper and accordingly issued Letters of Appointment with effect from April 2015.
From 1st April 2015 effective date of the appointment, they have eagerly waited to be posted/deployed to schools to actualize or justify the intention of the government for their engagement, but apparently, their waiting appears to be endless despite repeated entreaties to the board statutorily saddled with the mandate of recruitment, transfer and posting of secondary school teachers and other stakeholders in the Akwa Ibom State Government as well as other heads of agencies.
This seemingless hopeless and bleak situation filled with uncertainty now leaves them in hysteria and compounded frailty as many are already dead, (about a week ago, another one bid the world farewell) while others are psychologically traumatized and desolate given the fact that the employment was widely publicized (most of them were either laid-off from private establishment while others resigned voluntarily) and is still being perceived as succour by their families and numerous dependents, particularly in a time like this in our national economy.
It is worthy of note to state that vacancy abound in our public schools and the system is comatose as so many teachers have either retired, died, or transfered their service, and it is reported that most public schools in the state have about three(3) to four(4) teachers especially in rural communities, but government have about 5000 employed teachers awaiting deployment to schools.
It is therefore pertinent now, to draw the attention of HIS EXCELLENCY THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF AKWA IBOM STATE, MR UDOM GABRIEL EMMANUEL to wade-in and intervene in whatever challenge that may be causing teachers so much tears, agony, lack, hunger, etc. Also, it is high time our public schools are saved from total collapse as its continuous lack of man power will continually sink the system.

How are we sure all of them graduated from faculty of education?
This nonsense must stop, students spend four and above years in the university, reading tirelessly, go on many TP (teaching practice) just to acquire the necessary skill of teaching. Only for government to recruit people who can't get a job on their area of discipline to become teachers just after two month training is a slap on all the potential teachers.

We have many qualify teachers that can't get a job of teaching, why employ non teachers to do what they do not have knowledge on how to do, just to reduced level of unemployment.
