The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has revealed plans to prosecute 130 staffs of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over their alleged involvement in corrupt practices. It all seem to me that EFCC are fighting to be relevant in the government.

The Head of Operations for the commission's Gombe Zonal office, Aminu Ado Aliyu, while briefing newsmen in Gombe on Thursday, October 20, said that the 130 INEC staffs collected funds to the tune of N73 million during the 2015 elections.

According to him, EFCC has recovered N183, 590, 000 from politicians within the zone which is part of illegally sourced funds which was used in the 2015 general elections. “In line with this, a total of 130 staff drawn from Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba states have been interrogated and will soon be charged to court for corruption involving the sum of N73 million bribe during the 2015 polls.

“The breakdown of the INEC staff interrogated by the EFCC shows that Gombe has 26 suspects, Adamawa has 86 and Taraba has 18 respectively, who collected the bribe which we have since recovered from them,” Aliyu said. For the time being, EFCC has reportedly recovered over N196m on financial crimes during several operations in Borno from November 2015 till date.

The EFCC Head of Operation in the state, Ibrahim Bappa, disclosed in a statement that the commission has also recovered N2.8 million for victims following petitions received and acted upon within the zone.

This is where EFCC will definitely nail some people, cos dudes here don't have political muscles and stamina to defend their corrupt practices.
