Xiaomi has a new concept phone --
but it's not actually a concept, it's
real. And it's crazy.

Designed with the help of French
designer Philippe Starck, and
announced here at Xiaomi's Beijing
event today, the 6.4-inch device
features a striking bezel-less
display. Where other phones
usually keep a top and bottom area
available for the front camera and
home button, the Mix does away
with both, leaving only a small
space in the bottom right corner for
the front camera.

The phone will be available in China
on November 4 and will come in
two models. One, housing 4GB of
RAM and 128GB of onboard
storage , will sell for 3,499 yuan,
which converts to about $510, AU
$680 or £420. A premium model
with 18-carat gold embossing and
256GB onboard storage will cost
3,999 yuan. That's approximately
$590, AU$770 or £480.

Because it wouldn't be a
phone without a selfie
camera, the Mix has a
front-facing 5-megapixel
shooter at the bottom right
corner. It's an awkward
location, to be honest.

As mentioned, the phone is all screen, and Xiaomi says the screen-to-body ratio is 91 percent. The only bezel you'll see is right at the bottom of the phone. The front speaker is gone and Xiaomi is using a piezoelectric ceramic actuator hidden beneath the screen to deliver sound to your ear. The proximity sensor has been replaced with an ultrasound sensor.

The bottom of the phone features what appear to be dual speakers.

Agreed Sharp did this first but compared to this latest Xiaomi product, Sharp is a learner..... I mean, this phone is made entirely of ceramic and not aluminum, like the crystal aqua...... Mr Phillipe Starcke, a world renowned, and respected designer, is the brains behind the design of this device. With all his industry leading designs from Airplanes to Ships to Architectural masterpieces, he stated that designing a phone, the Mi Mix, is something he is doing for the first time ever. It took them 2years to produce this phone, and what do we have? A perfect render of what a premium phone at a low price point should look like.
