CANAN is the Christian Association of Nigerian AmericaNs. The event was CANAN's annual dinner. It was held at the Marriot in Houston. The theme of this year's event was Trade and Investment (how Nigerian-Americans can invest in Nigeria). The special guest of honour was Vice President Osinbajo.

The girl is Nigerian, a christian (many of the abducted Chibok girls were christians) and she is now based in America, so she was invited to the event.

Notable Nigerian-Americans who have accomplished great things in the past year were given awards at the event.
