Today's rejection is just a temporary setback. The president and the senate leadership will meet and reach a consensus on the matter. The proposed infrastructures are key to the diversification of the economy and hence, the loan is inevitable.

Hello Mr hypocrite. You refused to answer my question on the other thread on how private investors produce public goods for a whole region.

Why ain't u advising that FG invites private investors for these projects ?

Are infrastructural developments through private investors only good for Nigerdelta ?

Evil people that will see black and call it white.

You want to borrow now for infrastructural development but want Nigerdelta to wait for private investors

I disagree; you can actually diversify the economy by concessioning out Government owned assets such as oil filed and roads. In the case of the oil and gas industry no deal of significance has taken place in the upstream space simply because Buhari has made the sector unattractive to investors, by refusing to heed to Kachickwu's call to transmute the existing Joint Ventures with the IOC's into Incorporated Joint Ventures replica of NNLG. A recession affords entrepreneurs and policy makers the opportunity to innovate new solutions to society's problems; returning back to the IMF/World Bank for solutions IMHO amounts to hollow thinking in my opinion....

According to Buhari, that would be corruption.

How can you borrow a heavy Loan for infrastructural development, how will that revamp our dead economy or alleviate suffering in the Land?

Buhari should focus on diversification of the economy and exodusing us out of this misery instead of taking Loans to construct railtracks from Daura to LA.

Dnt u need money to diversify, we just know how to abuse words, everyone is saying diversify, how can u diversify without infrastructure.......we know how to use mouth to do things, buh to take action we kick against...buhari should diversify d economy with his teeth.....

I love this senete lead by Dr Bukola Saraki,Since Buhari has not proven to be able to manage the little that was entrusted to him,he can't be trusted to manage the billions of Dollars, before u know it the demonic Cabal will steal everything ,leaving the poor masses to suffer what they don't know

You want to diversify the economy without building key infrastructure like power and good rail network right? My friend, you don't know what you are saying. The infrastructures proposed in the loan plan is key to diversification of the economy.

Forget talk. All the monies that past administration has been borrowing who e epp? Nigeria doesn't need more indebtedness to compound her woes.

All the monies PHCN has been collecting on electricity bill yet we haven't achieved 24hrs power supply. A thing neighbouring countries have achieved at our expense.

Isn't it time we started taxing them on the use of Nigerian hydroelectricity?

DONSMITH123:
The hope of President Muhammadu Buhari for external borrowing was on Tuesday dashed as the Senate overwhelmingly voted against his request to do.

President Buhari had last week written to the Senate, requesting for the approval to borrow about $30bn as 2016 – 2018 External Borrowing Rolling Plan.

However, when the matter came up for deliberation and was moved by the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, the senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye indicated to lead a debate on the matter, but was turned down by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

It was later subjected to a voice vote, at the end of which the ‘Nays’ turned out the loudest vote.

You cannot diversify the economy under 17 months in a period of very low oil earnings. Diversification can only happen over a long period of time and provision of key infrastructures is key to diversification.

The number of right thinking pple r dwindling day by day, I just pity d president, every tin to make tins right has been opposed by those who r against development.

If u ask me, I'll say he just go ahead nd do what he likes, because dese guys r not ready to allow development.

They r destined to make him fail

For a president that is far from being what you call nationally popular, currently facing secessions and insurgency.
That would be like pouring fuel into fire.
The US would have thrown him out of that seat long before that anyway.

Expecting it to just pass must mean Nigeria has been turned into a complete banana republic.
Good job by the Senators.

To develop any economy by any Govt, capital infrastructures is the way out. Not dolling money to individuals like PDP.

They want to borrow money that will forever put us in massive debt with no results that will show for it.

This FG that met a bustling economy and ran it aground now want to borrow and finally bury the country into the ground. The senate did well by curbing it.

Do you know the meaning of incompetence and its consequences? Buhari, for now, among all the past leaders is the dumbest and brainless leader. Tell me why has Buhari not desclose the exact amount of the loots. Why has he not also tell us the amount so far realised from the TSA. The danger is leaving a country in the hand of this degree of dumbest man is that his mind, because of his dullness, will be to explote only those dangerious areas like taking loans instead of looking at other important areas that are very immportant to revive the recession. Am very happy for this news. First IMF refused him similar loan. Today, another loan he requested for is turned down. Next time, dumbest leaders will not find it easy to contest. Ask Buhari to change his elementary ministers, he will not do that claiming that he is wise..

Do you how much it cost OBJ administration to settle the Paris Club that we are going back cap in hand to request for another loan? The loan is planned to be spent mostly on recurrent expenditure such as paying salaries and allowances of civil servants and politicians and not for income generating activities like factories, loans to small businesses and fixing infrastructure deficit.

Now that's victory for democracy!

That's how separation of power should work

There should be checks and balances

What Nigeria needs is not more borrowing, what we need is a cut in the cost of government!

Very correct. Presidency should send a bill cutting down expenditure everywhere by 50%. Including NASS overall cost.

These men dey underate Bubu.

This is sweet.

How can you propose to borrow without details on how to spend and how to repay?
The request letter even mentioned other special projects which means that they are not even sure of what to spend all the money on.

To be honest, I think the senate have saved them from external embarrassment because world bank has already demanded a non-existent economic blueprint before they can give any loan.

Na wa for NEPA bill certificate holder and his co-travellers
