Sports has been relegated to the background in Nigeria. The ministry of education (Kogi state) hosted primary and secondary school students that won laurels for the state at the 2013 and 2014 National Schools sports Festival and all they could get on Friday was an historical handshake. Some of the coaches and athletes traveled long distance to attend the event and they were given soft drinks. The funniest thing when they were leaving, 50 persons were given #1,000 for transportation to their various destinations. It would have been better if the reception was postponed till a more convenient dat when the ministry must have tangible things to give the students (imagine the students 2014 medals are missing and nobody is saying anything). Some of the athletes vowed not to represent the state and said if serious States extend an invitation to them, without looking back they will honor the invite. If feel it is high time Kogi state scrap the National School Sports Office in the state, scrap the state sports Council and make it a Sports Commission as it is in other states. KOGI STATE SPORTS COMMISSION would be the best thing that will happen if they are to tap into the hidden potentials. This is my submission
