Based on Amaechi, the President’s investment in Agriculture, Mining, Solid Minerals, and Manufacturing, cannot bring about the required economic self-reliance, if the maritime sector remains a mere appendage
The Minister, talking at the special event of the 2016 World Maritime Day, tagged: “Shipping Indispensable to the World”, organized in Lagos, burned out that for Nigeria’s economy to be self-reliant, the Maritime industry, should not remain only appendage in a foreign dominated shipping industry.

He mentioned, that government at the Federal level, was devoted to ahelping real investors to gain gain access to to Cabotage Vessel Financing Funds, CVFF.

Amaechi stated, “Investment in Agriculture, Mining, Solid Mineral, and Manufacturing, would never produce the needed economic self-reliance if the maritime sector remains merely appendage in a foreign dominated shipping industry.

”Government is equally devoted to helping genuine investors, to access the CVFF, so as to improve investment in ship building, and also repairs,” the Minister explained.

He noted, that efforts were at an advanced evel, to help the establishment of a national carrier, to be spear-headed by the private sector.


He said, “This when established, is believed to address multiple challenges in the shipping industry, such as check capital flight, create more employment opportunities for our youths, provide opportunities for seatime, training of graduate cadets, as well as enforce resurgence in the ship building and repairs sub-sector of shipping.
“We are committed to exploring the single window project, and ensuring that the various operational processes of the Maritime sector, such as vessel reception, cargo handling and clearance, among others become automated, to reduce revenue leakages.

”The gap in manpower development, would be addressed, by upgrading capacity building institutions, to provide the needed professionals, and skilled personnel to run the industry,” Amaechi noted.
