NBS: Nigeria Records $1.82bn Capital Inflow In Q3 by agwom(m): 7:28am On Nov 08, 2016
Nigeria imported a total of $1.82 billion capital into the economy at the third quarter of 2016, more than double the value imported at the second quarter of the year.
Data released yesterday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that the latest capital import value was $780 million higher than the $1.04 billion imported at the second quarter of this year, translating to a 74.84 percent rise.

Analysis of the data showed that the highest level of capital imported was in August, when $894 million was imported, the highest level since July last year.
The NBS attributed the rise in the capital import at the third quarter to “a number of investment types.”
However, total capital imported declined by 33.70 percent in Q3 2016 from $2.67 billion same period last year.
“Much of the quarterly increase in the value of capital importation came from debt financing,” the NBS stated.
“Of the total quarterly increase, 85 percent was accounted for by increases in portfolio investment in bonds and money market instruments; the latter of which comprises short-term funding securities such as treasury bills and commercial bills from CBN,” it said.
Capital is either imported in the form of shares, or directly imported by different sectors of the economy.
During the period, the value of share capital imported was $646.28 million, which represents an increase of 85.72% relative to the previous quarter.
The banking sector regained its position as the sector to import the largest value of capital, importing $555.52 million worth, or 30.49 percent of the total.
The report said quarterly growth in foreign direct investment (FDI) equity was also strong, although portfolio equity continued to decline.
Each type of investment, being FDI, portfolio and other investments, recorded quarterly increases, of 84.84 percent; 5,172.84 percent t and 7.80 percent respectively.
The country from which Nigeria imported by far the most capital was the United Kingdom, which accounted for $1.10 billion, or 60.24 percent of the total.

$1.8bn pales in significance to the $2.7bn achieved in Q3 2015 and the $6.5bn achieved in Q3 2014. Capital inflows have fallen significantly since the Buhari regime came into power.

Capital imported into the country in the third quarter of 2014 was recorded at a value of $6.54bn, (N1.08trn) rising by about $738.7m or 12.73 per cent over the $5.8bn imported capital in the preceding quarter of this year.

The report on the imported capital imports value published by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, indicated that relative to the $4.42bn worth of capital imported in Q3 of 2013, the Q3 2014 figures reflected a growth of about $2.12bn or 48.06 per cent.

Shame on you boy! I know this kind of news aches your belly and others like you.

On the contrary to your disgusting submission, this is far more significant than those quarters you referenced given the fact that we're battling recession.

If this was capital flight out of Nigeria, you children of anger would celebrate and now that it's capital inflow, you can't hide your pain and frustration.

It must really suck to be you guys.

This post plumbs new depths of crassitude. So we should celebrate these figures because they occurred during a recession that was self-inflicted?

The low capital inflows reflect the government's bone headed decision to maintain a fixed exchange regime: an economically illiterate decision you were a passionate advocate for. Are we supposed to celebrate figures which are an embarrassment for a nation of 180m merely because they are less catastrophic?

You also need to distinguish between gross capital inflows, which these figures represent, and net flows (the difference between gross inflows and gross outflows).

To call you a paid propagandist is a compliment as one cannot fathom the sheer magnitude of imbecility required to subscribe to some of the views you espouse on this forum.

I know it requires higher level of imbecility not to understand importance of any kind of growth during a recession. That imbecilic ability surpasses the one exhibited by the Ineffectual Buffoon himself.

Keep gnashing your teeth in frustration because I don't have space for sore loser like you.
