Honeywell group, owned by Nigerian billionaire, Oba Otudeko, has sacked no fewer than 100 of its workers, Breezereporters.com can authoritatively report.

It was gathered that the workers were relieved of their job on Friday, 4th November, 2014.

According to a source within the organisation, the retrenchment of workers affected both Ikeja and Apapa plants of the company which deal in oil and gas, flour milling, real estate and marine transportation.

Age and number of years spent in the company were some of the criteria used in determining those who were sacked.

In some instances, Breezereporters.com gathered that some staff who had spent 20 years and above were among those affected by the retrenchment exercise.



A source who craved anonymity told Breezereporters.com that workers who were laid off cut across various departments in the company.

Specifically, workers from engineering, marketing and finance as well as contract staff were said to have been affected by the development.

Although, it is unclear why the company took the decision, many companies in Nigeria have recently retrenched staff following biting economic recession which poses great challenges to businesses.

The source, who is familiar with the development noted that “it was simply a restructuring to accommodate younger staff in the company structures.

It was further gathered that the company paid compensation in cash to most of the entrenched workers.
