Miles Per Gallon: M111 Vs M112 by Nobody: 4:05am On Nov 13, 2016
I have read recently on some what's app group about the Mercedes Benz M112 engine V6 being more fuel efficient than the M111 I4 engine. These engines are installed in the Mercedes Benz W202 and the W210 including the earlier W203 Mercedes Benz.

I totally disagree with this notion based on my personal experience with these rides. Also, based on what I have read on online auto research sites as regards these cars; none has suggested to the contrary the affirmed manufacturer's MPG of these rides, albeit with little variations here and there.

I have been made to understand that the claimed mpg by Mercedes Benz itself is a hoax, and also that those auto websites too have only cooked up those values which are almost in line with the manufacturer's claim. Those who also drive these cars on this group too seem to agree with this notion, as they claim to have tested these mpg by racing the I4 against the V6 on some occasions at a fixed distance.

I have constant access to 3 W202; 220 (younger bro), 200 (mine), 180 (mum), an ML320 2002 (mum), a w203 (supervisor) and sometimes W210 here and there that belong to friends. I am never convinced that the M112 is more fuel efficient than the M111 engines.

Without paying attention to driving style of different drivers, condition of vehicles and even type of fuel in these cars, can somebody categorically claim something that contradicts the manufacturers' values as being the correct values based on his/their own one-off experience?

Should we also conclude that all auto research sites have cooked up what they publish on their sites with reckless abandon, without giving a damn if someone is miss informed?

Do we say Mercedes itself has never been forthcoming with the truth about information as concern the engines they built in these cars?

Are we more equipped over here in Nigeria at actually deciphering, making conclusions and recommendations on how efficient these cars are to the level of disagreeing with the makers and those who are equipped to draw such conclusions.

As a scientist, there are things I won't accept.

So, can those who have more experience with these cars please shed more light on this issue. Is there something I need to know or that I need to be told?

Thanks as you make a contribution.

personal experience... m112 is more fuel efficient than the m111... tested and trusted... with W202 c230k and 280... severally.

same thing with the w210 E320 M112 and w210 E200 M111 .... both Auto transmission.

Redo the test "all things being equal", and your first port of call should be weight.
The ML, W203 & W210 are all heavier than the W202. Surely you don't expect to get same mpg.
Then there's the matter of state of health of those cars, driving style, weather, just to name a few.

If the manufacturer claims otherwise, then the claims by these individuals are just wrong. Do you know that the W202 C280 is heavier than its counterparts with the I4s? I have searched everywhere and I know that the V6 can never be economical than the I4 in W202.

I brought this here to actually see if pipu will be able to contribute. Now I know why people just make some spurious claims.

[Sure the W202 C280 is not as economical as the W202 C180, however, it's as economical as the W202 C230 even better than C230k. I have used them all, currently using the C280]
