The Falconets of Nigeria have kept their FIFA u20 Women World Cup title hopes alive by creating an upset defeating Canada. The Nigerian ladies which lost 6 – 0 to Japan in their opening fixture came from a goal down to beat the Canucks 3 – 1. Carle opened the scoring for the North Americans in the 15th minute as the Canadians dominated a good part of the first half. Nigeria leveled things up from the penalty spot as Uchendu punished the opposition captain who held the ball with her right hand in the danger area; with both teams going into the break with one goal apiece. The Falconets sent the stands into the heavens seconds into the second half with a fine play which set up Bokiri who made no mistake at goal. A goalkeeper error ensured Nigeria got the third goal as poor clearance in the danger area gifted Iheazuo who was lurking around an opportunity to slot into an empty net. It ended Nigeria 3 – 1 Canada. The Falconets now have three points must beat Spain in their last group game on Sunday, November 20. The Spaniards lead the pack with six points, having defeated Japan 1 – 0 in their second group game. Canada are rock bottom of the group with no point.
