1. Be wary of your personal space and those of others. Don't stand too close to people and be mindful of people who get too close to you. These pickpockets have crazy ways of stealing from you. It can also protect you from wrong allegations. Imagine you are standing very close to someone and maybe the person misplaced something, believe me you are gonna be the accused for the crime, and just an allegation alone can get you killed. But keeping some distance would at least prevent such. Personal space should be at least 50cm. Be careful of people who invade your space.

2. Increase your awareness level. Be aware of your immediate environment, reduce the headphones and earpiece stuff while walking on the street. When you are aware of your environment you can easily detect things that are out of place, such as people shouting, running etc.

3. Know your environment: One should know the type of environment you live in, how dangerous it can get in certain times and also places one shouldn't ever even think of going to. That story of the Alafia area close to Orile serves as a perfect example.

4. Reduce you Night movement to the barest minimum: This is a classic safety precaution. in a place where people do all sorts of terrible things in broad daylight, imagine what they would do at night.

5. Be careful how you use your mobile Phones in public transport and also while walking on the street. If possible keep them in your bag, or in your most secure pockets.

6. If you have a wallet, aside from keeping your money inside, keep some little change in your pockets, just in case your wallet gets missing, you can at least still get home. Instead of begging which might make cause more harm than good for you if you are not careful.

7. VERY IMPORTANT: Be careful of things you say in public places especially in the following areas; Religion, Politics, Ethnic stuffs, You never know whose listening. Everyone and I repeat EVERYONE has psychopathic and violent tendencies. Difference is certain people choose too suppress theirs, while others don't.

Folks who have had bitter experiences can share their stories and lessons they learnt from it.
