Speaking at a political round-table organized by the Movement for Greater Anambra State, MOFGAS, in Awka, Amaechi urged them to strive to conquer economic and technical power since the hallmark of every government was to effect development to make life better for the people.
acknowledged the neglect of Igbo nation, which he said, contributed immensely towards independence and economic growth of the country, he argued that rather than bemoan their situation, Igbo people should exploit their ingenuity by using their technical and business acumen to develop their land. Giving example with the industrial town of Nnewi, the elder statesman observed that the people of the area have been investing at home, developing their town and providing employment for their people. Chairman of Presidents of Ohaneze in the Igbo –speaking states of the country, Dr. Chris Eluemuno agreed with Amaechi, insisting that Igbo did not belong to the scheme of things in Nigeria, arguing that until they established a political party that they could call their own, they would remain a toy in the hands of the rest of the people of the country. In his speech, the chairman of MOFGAS, Chief Shedrack Anakwue said the group’s desire was to seek for a new coalition that would produce a governor after the heart of the people during the next dispensation. According to him, the body is made up of committed Anambra people cutting across the 21 local government areas with a vision and desire to facilitate and engender good governance in the state. He said: “What we have in mind is a government that will be devoid of impunity, nepotism, denominational discrimination and all the divisive tendencies that are capable of tearing us apart. Rather, we desire a governor that will unite us as a people with common goal”. Also contributing, a former governorship aspirant in the state, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu said Anambra was tired of slogans, adding that ‘now is time to action’. According to him, a leader must be capable of mobilizing the people, creating jobs, judiciously mobilizing state resources and be held accountable at the end of his tenure. Governor Willie Obiano, Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, APC chieftain, Chief George Moghalu and leader of PPA in the state, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo were represented at the ceremony, while former Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, among others, attended.

I dont think it is Rotimi Ameachi. I think it is an Amaechi from Anambra state and not the lion of Ubiama and minister of transport.

I know IPOB miscreants and yoots will soon invade this thread, calling the old man who had seen the evils of a war several and unprintable names, someone old enough to be their grand father or great grandfather.

You wan try? cool I have a lot of respect for Ichie Mbazulike Amaechi, former Minister of Aviation in the 1st Republic. His views are always well-balanced.

For being a powerful, reasoned voice for moderation and mutual respect for all Nigerian nationalities, for confronting key issues and speaking truth to authority where many shy away from it; for being a firm guiding hand always available for consultation in times of national danger, Chief, Ichie Mbazulike Amaechi is The AUTHORITY Icon.

The story of his life is intertwined with the story of Nigeria's evolution from a disparate collection of ethnic nationalities into a challenged entity striving strongly to become a modern state. Today, he is the quintessential statesman who has seen the extreme challenges of nation building. He is Chief, Ichie Mbazulike Amaechi, First Republic Minister of Aviation.

He was born in Ukpor, Anambra State, on June 16, 1929. Young Amechi attended Catholic School, Umunuko Ukpor, from 1937 to 1943. He later proceeded to the famous Etukwuoku College, Onitsha from 1944 to 1948. He served as the Principal Organising Secretary of NCNC from 1955 to 1959. He was the Secretary-General of the Zikist Movement from 1960 to 1963 and later NCNC publicity Secretary from 1964 to 1966.

He became a parliamentary secretary, Ministry of Information 1960 to 1962 and later Minister of State for Ports from 1964 to 1966. On the business turf, he was astute and circumspect. He was chairman and managing director of a chain of companies in the 60s.

With the return of party politics in 1979, he became a member of the then ruling National Party of Nigeria, NPN, from 1979-1983. During this period he served as the executive member, Strategy Committee, NPN. Later he was appointed the director, Nigerian Railway Corporation.

Amaechi who boasts the rare privilege of being a witness and participant in the Nigerian story, right from independence in 1960, through, civil war, military dictatorships and back to civilian rule also has the singular honour of hosting the South African icon, Nelson Mandela, when he came for consultations with some Nigerian nationalists during the period of struggle against apartheid. With little question, Amechi belongs to the vanishing tribe of elder nationalists.

It is also worth recalling that Amechi put his own life on the line in defense of Nigeria's foremost nationalist, late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, by nipping in the bud a lethal plot to attack Zik in Lagos in the 60s. For this selfless, courageous action, he was given the sobriquet of "The boy is good," by a grateful and much relieved Zik as a mark of his personal appreciation. He holds the traditional title of Dara Akunwafor of Ukpor.

Sound advice. undecided Several people on NL have also offered the same suggestion to them. We pray they will take heed and act on it, as quickly as possible.
