How To Properly Size Dc Cables From Solar Panels So You Dont Lose Power by Nobody: 7:29pm On Nov 19, 2016
You probably invested so much in solar panels and battery bank but still didn’t get any good performance from them and you are frustrated to believe solar does not really work…Hold on. Look at your cables.

Improper sizing of cables from the solar arrays to the controller has contributed greatly to the loss of power from the panels even before they get to the controllers and this has hindered performance in so many installations. As DC power attenuates over distance, it is very necessary to properly size the cables to carry the DC current along the line.

Ideally low voltage systems implies that high current will flow through the line so to calculate the size of cable you need, this formula will come in handy

(Length of cable x current from panel x 0.04) /(inverter dc voltage/20)= cable thickness (mm)
