Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State says the goal of his administration is to build on the legacies of the Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia in the area of infrastructure, stressing that the projects executed by Dr. Ogbemudia about forty years ago are very remarkable.
Speaking during the Governor’s maiden visit to Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia at his residence in Benin City, Monday, Governor Godwin Obaseki said “Our first visit was to the Benin Technical College, the technical school, as you must have seen on television.
“It is remarkable what you put in place there forty years ago. The structures are still so solid that in spite of the total abandonment of that school, you could still see the relics of the solid foundation you built in that institution.
“We want to assure you that our goal is to build on that legacy you left. The next day, we went to the secretariat complex to see the state of infrastructure and the condition under which civil servants work. Since you left about forty years ago, successive administrations have not been able to add one block on it. I want to assure you that we will, as a matter of priority, build on that solid foundation which you laid.”
Governor Obaseki said they had come to tell Dr. Ogbemudia that his administration had commenced work.
He said, “We have come to inform you that we have resumed work and today, Monday, marks the beginning of the second week in office. We resumed office last Monday, and since then we hit the ground running. But what has been very remarkable since we started is that, as we promised during the electioneering, we try to focus on those areas which didn’t get enough attention during Comrade Oshiomhole’s tenure.”
He also said, “We have come to pay you a courtesy call and to thank you in particular for the support you gave to us during the electioneering. We also have come to thank you for what you have done for us in Edo State and to Edo people.”
Responding, the elder statesman and two-time governor of Midwest and Bendel states, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia said he felt deeply honoured by the visit of Governor Godwin Obaseki, saying that he has a team of competent hands in his administration.
Dr. Ogbemudia enjoined the Governor to work with people who can draw his attention to issues that could have negative consequences on the state rather than working with people who would accept everything he says.
The elder statesman also drew the attention of Governor Obaseki to the road that links Sobe to Owan West, the rice farm at Agenebode and the gold mine at Owan East and Owan West. He urged him to intensify efforts to make meaning achievements either during his first one hundred days in office or during his one year in office.
Accompanied by the Governor on the visit were the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, the Head of Service, Mrs. Gladys Idahor, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Taiwo Akerele, among others.

I hope he keeps to his words because lack of continuity in Governance has been a major recurrent setback in Nigeria
