UEFA has named a 40-man list for the 2016 Team of the Year, encouraging fans to select their favourites online from a group that includes 12 Premier League nominees as well as La Liga stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Andres Iniesta.

You will recall that no Premier League player made the Team of the Year shortlist last season after just five were included among the original 40. This year’s 40 are made up of four goalkeepers, 12 defenders, 12 midfielders and 12 forwards.

The 2016 list for fan voting features Joe Allen of Stoke City as well as players from Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Manchester United, Leicester City, West Ham and Manchester City.

Arsenal have the most included from any Premier League club, including defender Laurent Koscielny, midfielder Aaron Ramsey and forward Alexis Sanchez.
