Oke is best candidate for Ondo state, says Oodua groups
By Wuraola Ojo, Akure
The Alliance for Democracy, (AD) candidate in, Mr Olusola Oke is the best gubernatorial candidate capable of uplifting Ondo State to higher economic and cultural heights, the Oodua Nationalist Coalition, (ONAC) said on Tuesday in a statement made available to Irohinoodua.
A statement issued by ONAC Ondo State Chapter Chairman, Mr Oluwole Ogundare also urged President Mohammed Buhari to ensure the will of the people triumphs. ONAC said Ondo people are worried but well prepared for speculations that the election will be rigged using soldiers and riot police men in favour of the APC candidate, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu. ONAC is a coalition of 35 pan Yoruba groups spread across the South West states.
The group said the rallies of the three major candidates is enough to convince anyone that Oke is the undisputable choice of the people of Ondo State warning that any attempt to muzzle the desire of the people will be disastrous for the future of the country.
ONAC had embarked on house-to-house campaign in Ondo State, an exercise which began ten days ago. The group said ONAC is mobilising Yoruba people across the entire South West states to resist any attempt to rig the November 26 elections, urging President Mohammadu Buhari to ensure the will of the people prevails.
Leaders of the pan-Yoruba group described Oke as a “revolutionary whose past and present remain unblemished.”
Ogundare said Oke is the only candidate among the major contenders that represents the genuine aspirations of the people of Ondo State adding that the other candidates were rookies of powerful interests who want to use Ondo State as a guinea pig in the search for a political base towards the 2016 Presidential election. The group said 500 of its members are across the state mobilising support for Oke and preparing the people for a free, fair and decent election.
“We have been campaigning for Oke as volunteers. We know him. We listened to him. We checked his background. We look at his records in public service. We came to the conclusion that he is better than all the three other major contenders combined”, Ogundare said.
ONAC said the Ondo State APC has unleashed a campaign of “threat and intimidation” against the people urging the Presidency to prevail on the APC candidate and its supporters to learn from history.
The group “Unless something sinister happens, Oke is the choice of Ondo people. The issue now is about an individual and the available records of public service. The APC candidate has his support base in Aso Rock and Kaduna while the AD candidate has its support base in Ondo and in the South West. We do not know how the Fulani North backing Akeredolu think they love us more than Yoruba leaders when indeed these were the generation of people who jailed Chief Obafemi Awolowo and who had a hand in the death of Chief Moshood Abiola, the winner of the June 12 Presidential election.”
