Lalasticlala, as a keen observer of the Nigerian situation, what is your own opinion?

The Ondo elections has brought to the fore the pettiness of votes in Nigeria. You needed to have seen how these parties were dishing out cash for votes as if it were in a banana republic.

Reports say it even went as high as 3000 Naira per vote in some polling units, and the security agencies were selective about which cash distributor to arrest and which to ignore.

Argument 1:
I really cannot think of a way out of this quagmire...I mean you cannot blame hungry people who are God-fearing, can you?
They kneel down ceaselessly to pray to God for money, you pay them to vote for you, and they know God is watching them, so they vote as promised.

Dont blame them. Blame the leaders who deliberately keep you in poverty.

Argument 2:
Oh no don't blame the leaders, they have no choice but to steal back all they have spent on vote bribes, thugs hiring, campaign funds and mobilisation.

Rather blame the poor hungry religious voters who failed to think of the consequences of their susceptibility.

Now return to Argument 1.

What a sorry loop we find ourselves, a quagmire indeed.

Now you say you want to rescue Nigeria, you walk up to the podium with your lofty ideas, and the people say:

"oh please we have heard even sweeter promises, you politicians are all the same, you cannot even drop something, is it with our hungry stomachs we will go and vote for you? You are even very stingy already which shows you'll be a terrible leader "

Sad

So even if your mission is to clean the system, you have to first join the system, spend some time to recoup your money, and then begin to throw stones in the glass house.

Hon Abdulmuminu Jibrin tried that...but what do the people say?

"oh please, why is it now that you are talking? Oh...so after you have stolen our money you now have the "gut" to expose your colleagues yeah? You are a betrayer...shiooooor!!! "

I think democracy has got many bad sides, this is one of them...but the only advantage of democracy is that it gives the people a chance to decide what they want.

<<singing>>
So let's continue the way we have been doing,
Let's continue the way we have been doing,
If the people say they will not arise when they have the chance,
Ehn, let's continue the way we have been doing.
