The Ondo State governor-elect, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN is a devout Christian and the Chancellor of Owo Diocese{Anglican Communion} in Ondo State. He was born into the families of Rev. J. Ola Akeredolu of Owo Local Government and Lady Evang. Grace B. Akeredolu of the Aderoyiju family in Igbotu, Ese-Odo Local Government, Ondo State.



Rotimi Akeredolu of APC is the 3rd ‘Anglican’ Governor to rule Ondo State since 1999. Pa Adebayo Adefarati of AD was an Anglican from Akoko; he governed from 1999 to 2003. After the late Adefarati was Dr. Olusegun Agagu, also an Anglican from Iju-Odo, Okitipupa; Agagu governed from 2003 to 2009. The incumbent Dr. Olusegun Mimiko of PDP was born into a Muslim family but later became a Christian.



He succeeded late Agagu in 2009, and his second term ends in 2017. Mimiko is a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG). It is imperative to note that the PDP gubernatorial candidate at the 2016 governorship election in Ondo State, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN is also a staunch Anglican, and was at different times Chancellor of the Anglican Communion of Jalingo, Taraba State, and Chancellor of Anglican Diocese of Yola, Adamawa State.




Before democracy in 1999, the underlisted were military administrators with the exception of Chief Adekunle Ajasin and Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua who were civilian governors:
