OP...there is a difference between a linguist and a polyglot.A linguist study the structural analysis,the phonetic/phonemic anaysis and the societal relationships of languages.A polyglot can speak many languages proficiently and he or she will likely not be concerned with any analysis or functional relationship.I am a linguist,not a polyglot.the people you are looking for are bilinguals and multilingual(polyglots).....Note..there are people who are both linguist and polyglot.....I can speak and understand English,yoruba....bits of ebira.....but I can analysis lots of language
