Governor Willie Obiano has presented his administration's draft estimate and roadmap for the 2017 fiscal year put at 115.5 billion naira to the state House of Assembly.
A breakdown of the 2017 draft estimate titled " Budget for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth" will see the state spend 56.6 billion naira on Recurrent Expenditure and 58.9 billion naira on Capital Expenditure, reflecting the focus on significant infrastructural development during the year to stimulate the local economy towards recovery.
Projected on a crude oil price benchmark of 42 dollar per barrel and 305 naira to a dollar exchange rate estimate, the draft estimate represents an 11percent increase from that of last year whose budget size was put at 101.4 billion naira.
The budget is also designed to prioritize production over consumption, targeting a Recurrent to Capital Expenditure ratio of 49:51, with major Capital projects plans in key sectors of the State economy.
These include Works and Infrastructure with a budget of #24 billion, Agriculture 5.4billion, Education 3.4billion, Youths Empowerment and Social Investments 1.6 billion among others.
Presenting the budget estimate, Governor Obiano who described it as his administration's response to the very difficult economic situation forced upon the state by the present recession, stated that the primary focus remains the development of the state's economy and laying a solid foundation for a future that every one will he proud of.
The governor revealed that in preparing the budget, his government was guided by a more optimal resource allocation strategy, stronger collaboration with the Federal Government as well as a more holistic approach to development partnership interventions.
He noted that despite despite the economic challenges of the past fiscal year, the State has been able to remain afloat through an array of well-thought out policies of his administration notable among which is the economic stimulus package, the 20 million choose-your-project initiative for communities and markets among others.
Earlier, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Bar Rita Maduagwu while acknowledging that the 2016 budget was effectively implemented, assured that the House will continue to work in tandem with the laudable vision of the Obiano administration towards the greater good of Ndi Anambra.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr Obinna Emeneka expressed happiness to be part of the transformation which the present administration is bringing to the state and reminded Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the State Government that the 2017 budget bilateral interactions and defence will be duly conducted to ensure that the budget is effectively implemented.

People should understand that it is not the size of budget that counts but the level of implementation
Willie should be applauded for presenting a realistic budget
One Afonja goat came here to compare anambra budget with osun state over bloated budget
The goat forgot to ask himself how his jihadist governor will finance the budget
Whether is by borrowing which the governor is notoriously known for or through over taxing the poor citizens of his state
