Jets take over Lagos skies as LOC mobilises for semis

LAGOS State plans to wind up its hosting of matches of the Nigeria 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, where the two semi-finals would be played tomorrow, in grand style.

Switzerland begins the semi-finals against Colombia at 4p.m, while Nigeria tackles Spain by 7p.m. And in its characteristic manner, Lagos State would show off its might by lighting up its skies with special messages to thrill and lure fans to the matches.

As early as 9a.m, the jets would lighten the skies with their aerial manoeuvres and messages. The Lagos Sub-seat revealed yesterday that the aircraft would continue their aerial "bombardment" until the afternoon when the crowd would have packed full for the first match of the day. That is not all. There would also be spectacular fireworks that would start from where the jets stopped.

According to the Chairman, Lagos Sub-seat, who is also the vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amanze Uchegbulam, "the might of Lagos Sub-seat will be felt tomorrow because it is our own way of saying a big thank you to all the fans and Lagosians, who have been most wonderful with their support for activities in Lagos State."

He also disclosed that musicians such as Seun Kuti, Adewale Ayuba and Ayan Birin would be on ground to entertain fans within intervals for the carnival-like show that marks the end of activities of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the state.

The Executive Director of Wisdom Keys, Jaiye Opayemi, added: "We are putting up an innovation that we have tagged 'Soccertainment' for Lagosians.

"It is our own way of thanking everybody and showing indeed that Lagos owns the game. Lagosians have been tremendous in the matches in Lagos. Without being boastful, Lagos has been the centre of excellence for the U-17 World Cup."

Obviously, the idiots in Nigeria are just using politics to kill football in Nigeria. Football belongs to Lagos, no doubt about that.

If they had played all the Super Eagles matches in Lagos, you can imagine what would have happened?
