United Nations Asks Gambian President Jammeh To Step Down by Concaholic: 7:44pm On Dec 11, 2016 |
The United Nations has called on Gambian president Yahya Jammeh to step down following his loss in the country's December 1's presidential elections. Jammeh had lost to president-elect Adama Barrow, and had surprisingly conceded victory in a speech following the elections. Following a slight accounting error by the election-governing body, Jammeh had withdrawn his concession, and is demanding a new election. In a statement issued by his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, UN secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon told Jammeh to respect the decision of the people.
