Kano, Plateau Fail To Make It Into North East Commission by mmb(m): 1:20pm On Dec 13, 2016 |
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara) and his works counterpart, Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano) Tuesday failed to make Kano and Plateau part of the beneficiaries of the North East Development Commission (NEDC). The Senate had on October 20 during the third reading of the bill included Kano and Plateau states as beneficiaries of the proposed commission. The commission, if established will be charged with the responsibility of rebuilding the North-East region after years of destruction by the Boko Haram insurgents. Our correspondent had in November exclusively reported that the conference committee comprising Senators and Reps had removed the two states. However, during the consideration of the report of the conference committee Tuesday, Marafa and Gaya insisted that the two states be returned. Marafa called for the rejection of the conference committee, saying " Kano and Plateau states suffered more damages than some states in the North-east. " We should throw away these recommendations because they are not in tandem with our resolutions. Out of the 14 members of the committee, only five signed the report because of the injustice, "he said. It was at this point that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki asked the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume who submitted the conference committee to shed more light. Ndume appealed that the report of the conference committee be adopted, saying Gaya in his bill on North East Development Commission did not include Kano. Saraki put a question on whether the report be passed or not. Then the senators voted in its support. " Let us move forward and come back to amend it. We will do it within the shortest period, "he said. Read more at http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/kano-plateau-fail-to-make-it-into-north-east-commission/175815.html#eg1Cq1df3y0zg1xL.99 |

Why are we paying for the repairs to the destruction in the North East? They destroyed it themselves so they should pay for it. They should use the proceeds from the sale of gworro or groundnut to repair it themselves. 1 Like |

I am glad that Kano and Plateau states did not make it to the North-east Development Commission eventually. Let the affected states within the North-east alone benefit from the funds earmarked for them. 1 Like |

Was anywhere in Kano destroyed by Boko Haram terrorists? Same for Plateau. So, why should they be included in the first place. It would have been very wrong if they were eventually included. |
Re: Kano, Plateau Fail To Make It Into North East Commission by Nobody: 2:19pm On Dec 13, 2016 |
Blue3k: No. The state has been affected but the truth is there is not a single unbuild structure that has not been rebuilt. Federal government should pay for that (That's 4 Kano). What of Plateau? |
Re: Kano, Plateau Fail To Make It Into North East Commission by Blue3k(m): 2:23pm On Dec 13, 2016 |
FriendChoice: Probably same boat as Kano. They don't need it. Any damage if any that happened was probably covered by citezens, state gover or insurance companies. Federal Government need not intervene. |
Re: Kano, Plateau Fail To Make It Into North East Commission by Nobody: 2:24pm On Dec 13, 2016 |
uboma: I have been to all the listed above but not recently. Kano and Plateau is a Paradise compared to North East. But that does not in anyway means they were not affected. Kano State was badly affected as some States in North East. The difference is Kano start to rebuild the next day after destruction. You cannot found a single destructed property in Kano. The state government has really tried. This is the right time FG to repay kano state government. The money that will be given to Northeastern state should be greater than Kano and Plateau. |
Re: Kano, Plateau Fail To Make It Into North East Commission by Nobody: 2:28pm On Dec 13, 2016 |
Blue3k: No sir. I don't know Plateau. Be sure first don't assume because you don't want them 2get D cake. As for Kano the state government did the work and that should be repaid back for other infrastructural development. |
Re: Kano, Plateau Fail To Make It Into North East Commission by Blue3k(m): 2:55pm On Dec 13, 2016 |
FriendChoice: Plateau citezens should speak on it. Kano spoke as said nothing happened. I am not understanding is the related to boko haram? The North East development bill is not for the purpose your speaking of. If they wish to be repaid back that's fair but not through bill. The bill would give extra allocation and benefits. The senate has passed a bill for the establishment of a northeast development commission, which will be mandated to initiate and oversee the development of the region. Bukola Saraki, senate president, said it would help in bringing infrastructural development to the northeast. Source: https://www.nairaland.com/3419817/senate-passes-bill-establishment-northeast |
Re: Kano, Plateau Fail To Make It Into North East Commission by Nobody: 3:04pm On Dec 13, 2016 |
Blue3k: Which Kano? State governor or representative? What one or two person wrote on Nairaland does not count.
No it can be via any means. The fact there is massive destruction they should get their share whether bill or any means does not concern me. After the repayment they should also get a letter of commendation from National Assembly and Federal Government for their rapid response to insurgency destructed area of the state. Its only in Kano that 20 bomb blast occur within a period of 15 minute in different location of the state (Even Borno did not experience this (20 bomb blast in a day) ) The state government repaired not only state properties but all. (Including Federal Government Properties). So if Borno state have the damage properties, will u say they should be excluded? |

That's why they want one Nigeria. It is actually one Nigerian oil. After frustrating a president from the delta by bombing their lands, they frustrate the indigenes of the delta by using their resources to repair the bombed, far away, afforested north east. Some of my foolish brothers wouldn't still understand and that pains the most. |
