Workers of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, an affiliate of ExxonMobil, on Thursday protested against the indiscriminate sack of 145 Nigerian workers and violation of expatriate quota by the company.
They called for the removal of the Chairman/Managing Director, ExxonMobil Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Nolan O’Neal.
ExxonMobil Lagos office was shut after a “dispute between the employees union — Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) — and Mobil management on initiating an arbitrary sack of Nigerian employees without conclusive negotiations”.
The protesting workers displayed placards with inscriptions such as: ‘no to indiscriminate sack of Nigerians’, ‘Nolan O’Neal must go’, ‘Expat Contractors @ $2000 per day I expat = 10 Nigerians’, ‘Restore Dignity Of Labour Now!’.
A terse statement circulated by PENGASSAN to its members, stated that the protest, which began on Wednesday, was to continue on Thursday with an “increase the tempo”.
Part of it reads, “The plan is to withdraw our services totally from all our operating locations by midday tomorrow (15 Dec).
“The secretariat will keep you informed and updated as we arrive at that threshold. Injury to one is an injury to all!”

Its really disheartening to be treated this way in our own country.

Imagine $2000 a day for an expat & $200 a day for nationals, indeed what a failed nation.

The Nigerian government need to understudy how Angola and Saudi Arabia operate their oil industry to favour locals over expatriates.
