“He’s not a world class” – Premier League legend slams Man United superstar
According to the Premier League iconic striker Alan Shearer, Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not world class – whatever Phil Neville has to say about it.
The former Newcastle United captain took Neville to task on Match of the Day for suggesting as much.
The exchange followed the Red Devils 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, where the great goal from Ibrahimovic was decisive. It was enough for former Man United defender Phil Neville to sing the praises of the striker.
On Sky Sports, Neville said: ‘The guy plays every minute of every game that United play. EFL, Europa League, he travels to Russia he comes back he plays. Phenomenal. I think he’s world class.’
Alan Shearer replied: ‘He’s 35 years of age’. Asked to expand having dropped the world class bomb, Neville explained his rationale.
‘That’s what world class players do, they play in every minute of every game, they want to play in every minute of every game. Added Neville. ‘ They don’t want resting.’
However, it was not enough to convince Shearer: ‘Let’s have a look at this world class. Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez. Is he as good as those three? He was world class, no doubt about it.’
‘Was, is – the same thing,’ replied Neville.
