All these bogus figures ehnn...i tire!
How have this help the condition of the common man in the street?

I think their remittance is due largely to the huge differentiate in FX, as a man who earns $200/day abroad can comfortably do something wonderful in Nigeria this time.

Which work will pay you $200 a day? Minimum wage is less than $8 bro. Most Non professionals earn that amount from regular job. Rent is $500 per month for a single room. If you own a car, that is another case entirely.

I suspect some.of it is looted Nigerian Oil dollars hidden overseas, now being sent back slowly along the long route ,cloaked as random remittances.
Of course i am sure a few billion of it is legit from hard working Nigerians all over the world. So many Nigerians around the world. Enough of them to account for billions of $ a year. But also so much loot sent out of Nigeria, enough to account for billions covertly sent back in guise of innocent remittances.

When you hear the amount of money generated by this government and juxtapose it with their inability to meet their obligations as and when due, you can't but ask where goes the money?

I hope you are not thinking that remittances by Nigerians in diaspora form part of the government revenues.

If you remit money to your siblings at home, it is for your siblings to spend not for government.

A few years ago when the price of oil was pretty high Nigerian based Nigerians here on Nairaland insulted those in diaspora because there was easy money to be made back home.
Hope a lesson has been learnt.

I very much doubt these figures but they could be true.

This is massive profits in the hands of banks as they pay out at the official rate but sell at the black market one.
The commercial banks don't even get hold of these monies, na cbn dey cash am. Yet foreign reserve is still hovering between 24 to 25billion dolls!

Tomorrow somebody will come n shout buhari has integrity.

With the rate at which the citizens are complaining I wonder what Buhari led administration z really doing with all the money derived from
All the money saved from subsidy to Money gotten from Corrupt individuals to internal generated funds and now $35bn remittances from those living outside d country. At this point I wonder what d future will look like under the president.

The remitted 35bln$ does not belong to the government, so it is not for President Buhari to do something with.

Is he supposed to lay claim on people's personal remittances to develop the country?

While this is impressive, it's still a travesty how Western Union and other remittance companies are taking advantage of Nigerians living abroad. They exchange at a rate of 375/$ plus fees which actually decrrases the rate to around 345/$, they take that same dollars and sell it t the black market at the rate of 490/$. If this is not exploration then I don't know what is.

If you are in the US or have relatives in the US trying to send money to naija, I will exchange the funds at 410/$, simply deposit into my US bank account and receive instant funding into your Nigerian account. See my contact below.

It seems to me that you're doing the same thing as WU, MG and the likes.... just that your margins are less. Right?
