I knew many will want to buy even for their generation unborn. But even this one man one bag arrangement, how will they be able to cope with the high demand considering the population of Lagosians.
Anyway Kodus to Ambode and his team for this good initiative. Let other state key into this kind of program.
God bless Nigeria
True.
My suggestion is that there should be a fixed selling price for it.

How did you reach this figure?

Have you done a cost analysis and if you did can you share on this forum?
I don't need cost analysis but talking with experience

My secondary school mate whose sister is married to a TIV lecturer, both residing in Benue state supply us rice at 8000-9000( with other food items like yam, potatoes etc) all the way down to Lagos.
The neighboring community of my village called Ididep as of November last year sold rice for 7000naira my old boy still buys from there. Local rice though tedious they may be in preparation but highly nutritious
She won't sell to you at that amount if you don't come through a known party using the DOLLAR factor as a cover up but we know that FOREX got nothing to do with what is grown here in Nigeria

If Obama is working why will Americans wait till Black Friday to purchase most of the things they need?? If you dont want to queue you go to the market and buy at the normal price. Eranko

Ambode is a big fool!
Is Nigeria now a socialist or communist state where people queue for food and government fixes the price of food? Why not allow private individuals take up the initiative and control the transport and distribution of the rice so that it can be done more efficiently? How can a governor that went to school and supposedly finished with a first class, allow people to start queuing for food in the 21st century!
Anybody that went to school knows what happens in communist countries that practise this kind if state controlled food distribution. Only the government workers, members of the politiburo and the elite will have access to that rice.
This is shameful coming from a first class graduate of UNILAG. University education in Nigeria is wack after all.

If tomorrow these middle men you canvass for resell at 1800 Naira, you will be the first to complain that the Lake Rice programme failed. If a communist approach will solve the problem, then allow it; if not buy from another state. I reside in Edo and won't talk much on Lake rice as I am not a stakeholder, but why the fixation on Lagos state and any news that come from that area?

I'm not canvassing for middle men. Whqt I'm saying is that from precedence and from the experience of other societies, this type of food distribution system does not/cannot work! It has failed in the former Soviet union and almost everywhere else it has been practised.
Let as many people as possible get involved in the transport and distribution of the rice. If different people bring in their rice at different prices, we will have a range of prices to choose from. Plus it will be an efficient system because there will be competition.
The way it is now 80% of that rice will end up unaccounted for, in the homes of government workers and political appointees. They may even store it up and start using it to sway voters in 2019. It is not an efficient system because there will be massive scrambling for the rice and queues, it will breed corruption, and it will eventually be hoarded out because government workers who have access to it will take it to the market and probably rebag it and sell at N21,000.

My brother the range of prices these private transporters will leave Lagosians with can't be same with the government regulated price and once that is the case, those persons that wish no good for Nigerians and Lagosians will want to mock government. LASG is only taken steps to prevent this. I believe this initiative will follow through till both states are sufficient in rice production, then market forces will be allowed to thrive as the price would have 1st drastically reduced.

I saw this happening. U though we have rice in abundance. When government start announcing the price of a commodity with glee three weeks before arrival, just know that the E onions has collapsed. Market forces will always win.

How I wish Nigeria had been positive about agriculture up until now, things would have been better.

I congratulate this regime for taking a bold step towards making rice production a focus. Forex pressure will reduce and more nigerians will be employed.

The profit of this bold step will be visible in 5-10 yrs.

Let us support what is good with open mind.

I hope you are not being forced to buy that rice, or expecting people to buy expensive rice when they have alternative in lake rice.
Upon all the queue and the waiting for three days at the filling station, i ended up buying 5 liters of petrol for 2500 naira in this same Lagos in November 2014 and mind you this is a subsidized petrol.
Only an idiot will fail to see the " reason " behind your emotion laden post, self sufficiency in food production does not happen overnight, if only your beloved pee dee pigs have spent 7 out of 16 wasted years to produce and store rice, just like Joseph did in Egypt, Nigerians wont be here queuing to buy local and not even imported rice.
