There is a situation im beholding right now, its about a brother that is experiencing seizures like an epileptic.

He started having these experiences in secondary school, just suddenly. There's is no history' of epilepsy in his family at all.

when it started initially, it only happened at night when he is deep asleep but recently its beginning to happen during the day, i feel so sorry for him.

What baffles me is the fact that this guy doesnt abuse drugs or anything, infact he does not even consume alcoholic drinks. Its just inexplicable where this is coming from.

Pls nairalanders, who has had such an experience before? And to the medically inclined individuals in the house, is this epilepsy? Can this be cured?

epilepsy is a group of neurological disorder that arises from excessive and abnormal nerve cells activity in the cortex of the brain.funny enough African are not enlightened enough about such disorders.some see it as a fetish thing.it known cause is not generally known like you stated he doesn't drink nor smoke so this generally does not add to it cause.there are different types and you need a medical practioner to access that for you.it could be tonic clonic, generalised seizures.if the person has seizure(ie shaking, uncordinated loss of activity)for up to 5 minutes or at least two seizures in an hour that is a medical emergency, known as status epilepticus.it can be managed by various medications also surgery can be done to wade it off.he needs to be fully accesed by a doctor. Shalom

It is not necessary that epilepsy will be caused by drugs or alcohol. There are different types of epilepsy and each has its own cause. For example, idiopathic epilepsy is caused due to genetic disorders while Symptomatic epilepsy is caused by head injury or improper development of the brain. Though permanent cure for epilepsy is not available, some inexpensive drugs can help manage the symptoms better. In more critical cases, surgery may be required.
