The suspected and controversial "Plastic Best Tomato Rice" intercepted by the Nigerian Customs has been tested and analyzed by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC.
NAFDAC says the rice is not "Plastic" but is contaminated.
These were the findings from NAFDAC as reported by the acting director general, Mrs Yetunde Oni :
- flotation was negative
- sedimentation was positive
- lead and cadmium not detected
- Aerobic mesophilic count was 2800000, above maximum limits
- Coliform count was 75000 above maximum limits
Therefore, based on the above laboratory results, the product "Best Tomato Rice" is not plastic but the rice is contaminated with Microorganisms above permissible limits; hence the seized rice consignment is unsatisfactory for human consumption.
