You are the one who has tried too hard to reduce this topic to the socio economic status of both nations. The Russians have too many things uncommon with the American society.It cannot withstand the American economy, but the truth is that there is nothing the American govt can do about Russia's influence in europe and middle east at large. It is the largest supplier of gas to europe. It shares more similarities with Europe than america does. I know for one that Russia, despite all of its adventurism has not caused massive immigration in europe as seen today.
