So much hype for 2017. Everytime we are entering a new year people get excited about it and make new year's resolutions about things they intend to attain, sins they intend to stop committing, and what have you.

However, one key thing that is almost always ignored or put aside is how we intend to improve our security and the security of our friends and families.

As we kickstart 2017, I want you to know that crimes have not reduced from how they were in 2016, and the economy hasn't improved from what it was in 2016. In fact, all other vices remain the same, if they haven't worsened.

Since kidnappings, armed robbery, car snatching and theft would be seen in 2017, you must do the following to stay secure:

1. Watch Over Your Shoulders

This entails you been security conscious at all times. It always keeps you on your toes and act swiftly when there is a danger. It will always help you to detect if you have a strange individual in your neighborhood that has a mission that might be precarious to the community.

2. Avoid Known Criminals Flashpoints

It's pretty much easier for criminals to attack and win in their territory. Don't give them that opportunity. If you are going to be robbed, at least, don't make it a cheap victory for the robbers. So I advise you steer clear of such Flashpoint for your safety.

3. Always Keep Your Doors Locked

Whether you are at home or not, ensure that doors that grant accesshood into your house are locked. Know those on the other before you open. This will enable you to filter friends from foe. It will help you stay safe from folks of the underworld.

4. Security Education

Education is key. Security education is a master key. Educating your entire household on how to stay secured is so paramount it can't be overemphasized. If your household can police itself, you will need little or nothing from conventional policing.

5. Lock Your Car And Keep Attractive Things Away

Always ensure that you secure your car with a reasonable vehicle security. The purpose of security is not only to prevent your car from being stolen, but to also delay the thief or discourage them. Keep attractive items away from dashboard, seats or any other visible areas in the car. Doing so will give intending stealer nothing to captivate them.

6. Don't Trust Easily

Trusting people easily in our present world is not only unadvisable, but very perilous to you. Giving lifts to unknown individuals in your car, especially on the highway could jeopardize your safety. Follow your instincts, as there are those that are might be helpful to you.

7. Report To Police If You Suspect Anything

Though our police is not as effective as what we see in developed countries, they are still the laws enforcing agency in the country. If you suspect anything or anyone that could hurt you, don't hesitate to report to the police or any other security agencies nearby.

8. Don't Be Predictable

Alternating your routes and avoiding routine will help you stay safe. This will make it difficult for those tracking you for one abysmal reason or the other, since they won't know where you are going to be at any point in time.

9. Keep Your Itinerary To Yourself

Apart from family members, who could sometimes be sellouts themselves, it is highly imperative to keep certain secrets to yourself. Kidnappers could take advantage of your pronouncements to have you abducted.
You might say you are not that rich to be kidnapped. Let me tell you, there are different strata of kidnappers. Some kidnap for as low as fifty thousand naira.

I hope this writeup has been helpful!

Welcome to 2017!
