Applications are now open for the 2017 edition of Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme. The program was launched December 2014 by the Tony Elumelu Foundation as a way to reach out to Entrepreneurs in Africa, help and support their ideas and startups to create one million new jobs and US$10 billion in additional revenues for African economies. The Foundation pledged to invest US$100 million during the course of the 10-year initiative.

According to Tony Elumelu, the founder of the TEF, he said, “Our program is a deliberate effort to institutionalize luck and provide the essentials for business growth to Africa’s next generation of business leaders. It is a demonstration of my faith in this generation’s ability to transform the African narrative, from the single story of disease and poverty, to one of enterprise and opportunity. Spread the word; we need Africa’s best and brightest entrepreneurs. Their ideas will transform Africa.”

Since its launch in 2014, 2 years later; 2000 Entrepreneurs have already benefitted from this program.

According to Disrupt Africa reported that reported that previous editions of the program was dominated by Nigerians.

In this year’s edition of the program, TEF stated that applications from female entrepreneurs and French, Arabic and Portuguese speakers are particularly encouraged.

The program is in such a way that entrepreneurs participate in a 12-week intensive training course, participants are given US$5,000 seed capital and On-going mentorship is also available to participants.

To be eligible for the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme, your business must be located in Africa; it must be for profit; it must be less than three years old; and applicants must be at least 18 and a legal resident or citizen of an African country.

TEF said applications from female entrepreneurs, and French, Arabic and Portuguese speakers are particularly encouraged.

Disrupt Africa reported previous editions of the program have been dominated by Nigerian applicants.
