Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO)

The Employee's Provident Fund Organization is a government authorized entity that provides EPF Scheme to every employee of India. The EPFO was constituted as a statutory body under Employees' Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. The EPFO Organization regulates three different schemes for the benefit of employees, (i)Employees' Provident Fund Scheme, (ii)Employees' Pension Scheme and (iii)Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme.

Provident Fund is a saving of Employees which is deducted from their monthly salaries. Not only that, but the Employers also add some contribution towards Provident Fund of each employee on annual basis. The EPF Scheme is beneficial to Employee on completion of work period. The purpose of Provident Fund Scheme is to create some financial reserve for Employees and their family. That is why, the Employees should take care of their EPF Account time to time. Recently the rate of interest on PF Deposit has been decreased to 8.65% from 8.8% by EPFO.

The Employees can check updates of their Provident Fund Account by various methods provided by Employees' Provident Fund Organization. It has become very easy to check EPF Balance nowadays. The Employees can check their EPF Account Balance through Login to EPFO Official Portal at www.epfindia.com. The Employees need a Universal Account Number (UAN) which is registered with EPFO Organization in order to get PF Balance Enquiry online. The EPFO has given this Free Enquiry Service to Employees so that they can get details on their EPF Account transactions at anytime and anywhere. The Missed Call should be dialed on 011-22901406 from Employee's Registered Mobile Number Only. After giving a missed call, the Employee will soon receive a text message showing EPF Account Balance and Other Details.

The Employees can also see their EPF Balance Status through EPFO SMS Service. In order to use this method, the Employee need to send an SMS as EPFOHO UAN <ENG> to the number 07738 299 899. In reply of this SMS, the Employee will receive an SMS from EPFO with brief details on EPF Balance and other activities in PF Account. In addition to these two methods i.e. Missed Call and SMS Service, the Employee has some alternates like EPF Balance without UAN Number. In this method, the Employee requires to provide PF Account Number, Employee's Name and Mobile Number on EPFO website at www.epfindia.com.
