Below are pictures gathered from various oil spill locations in the niger delta of nigeria. Which have long suffered from oil explorations.

The impacts of oil spills on the Niger Delta are devastating: Mangrove forests are being obliterated, fish and shellfish are dying off, and whole Ecosystem is Collapsing.

Causes of oil spillage include Pipeline and tanker accidents , sabotage , oil production operations , inadequate or non-functional production equipment,Corrosion of pipelines and tankers , rupturing or leaking of old production infrastructures that often do not receive inspection and maintenance e.t.c

An average of 240,000 barrels of crude oil are spilled in the Niger delta every year, And most people in Niger Delta have lived with chronic oil pollution throughout their lives.

This is a call to stop further oil explorations in the Niger Delta and Clean up our Lands.

The Adverse Effects Of Petroleum Spillage In The Marine Environment

The quality of the environment is adversely affected by the activities of the petroleum industry. During exploration, drilling, transportation, processing, and storage, the petroleum industry discharges gaseous, liquid and solid wastes and products into the environment threatening the health of the population and damaging the quality of the environment by rendering farmlands and water bodies unusable. In particular, oil spills are especially damaging to lands and the Marine environment. Environmental resources at risk are those of direct economic value like fisheries, and those of intrinsic value to human society, like aesthetically pleasing environment.

Once discharged, petroleum spills undergo several processes. When crude oil or refined petroleum products are released into an aquatic environment, immediate changes occur in their physio-chemical properties as a result of several weathering processes. These processes are evaporation, spreading, advection, dispersion, dissolution, emulsification, adsorption onto suspended particulate material, sedimentation (agglomeration and sinking), oxidation and biodegradation.

This is where the money that comes as our monthly salary is coming from, this is where the money that was used to develop Lagos our former FCT came from, this is also where THE MONEY used in developing our present FCT Abuja and also other States of the federation... Just close your eyes and imagine how Third mainland bridge, and other infrastructure scattered around Lagos and Abuja could have been attained without this resources from this place, yet successive governments have allowed the goose that lay these eggs to rot.
