Why Senate Stopped Ban On Importation Of Tukunbo Car by sirequity(m): 4:57pm On Jan 11, 2017
THE Senate on Wednesday asked the Nigerian Customs Service to suspend further action on its policy of an outright ban on the importation of vehicles through Nigeria’s land borders in 2017.

The Upper Chamber also directed its committee on Customs to investigate the circumstances that led to the sudden decision of the Federal Government on the issue of importation vehicles through land borders.‎

The decision of the Senate was sequel to‎ a motion sponsored by Senator Barau Jibrin, who lamented that it is not economically expedient to ban importation of vehicles through Nigeria borders.

Jibrin said the policy will lead to the loss of about 500,000 jobs by people engaged in the business of vehicle importation.

Jibrin solicited that instead of suspending the importation of vehicles through land borders, the Federal Government should allow for the importation of vehicles through one entry border post in each geopolitical zone.‎
