Sowore Arrest: Is Free Speech Dead In Nigeria? by jiinxed: 6:01pm On Jan 11, 2017 |
We all know how Sahara reporters became popular. In the immediate past administration, they were known for their eye-catching news headlines. No week went by without their sensational news headlines gracing the front pages of newspapers (and nairaland as well). No arrests were made, No corruption charges were hung on their necks. Instead, they helped paint an image that Jonathan and his administration were corrupt demons who had to be forced out by all means. Woke up this morning to this image: www.nairaland.com/attachments/4727189_1_jpeg83b5009e040969ee7b60362ad7426573 and the headline that Sahara Reporters' owner has been arrested. This is what we warned about before the elections, but you guys refused to listen. Notice how all major new/media agencies have been silenced? Keep calm, buhari is just starting. ![]() ![]() 5 Likes |

I knew it would come to this "attack on free speech" nonsense. Yele was arrested for money laundering, he was even ratted out by one Fadoju guy (according to reports) so don't blame this despotic and evil junta for Yele's woes ![]() |

Nothing like free speech o. You have freedom of speech but no freedom after speech against this government. I wonder when God will use his spiritual cane to flog some useless people that think they brought themselves to power..... |

AS SOON AS HE COMES OUT FROM JAIL, DON'T BE SURPRISED IF SOWORE BECOMES THE BIGGEST SUPPORTER OF NNAMDI KANU. IN LIFE, SOMETIMES AND FOR SOME PEOPLE, THEY HAVE TO EXPERIENCE SOMETHING DIRECTLY BEFORE THEY WAKE UP AND STAND FOR THE TRUTH. I'M AN IPOB, AND I DON'T THE ARREST OF SOWORE! 2 Likes 1 Share |

Was free speech ever alive? The media were also subject to intimidation by government officials during GEJ's era. There are numerous stories of journalists receiving threats or being picked up by security officials for questioning. Also, much of what appears in the media is proxy for battles between political factions. Sowore is probably a victim of conflict within APC. 3 Likes |

OK... continue... those who ride the tiger, will one day end up in its belly... |
