The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi; and Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, are currently in the chamber of the Senate to address the lawmakers on the planned closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.

The Senate had on Tuesday kicked against the planned closure of the Abuja airport over repairs on its runway and the diversion of flights to the Kaduna airport.

The lawmakers summoned summoned Amaechi, Sirika, Minister of Works, Housing and Power, Babatunde Fashola; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar and heads of aviation agencies.

But Fashola and Bello are absent.

The rumour of buhari wanting to sack some ministers, has waken the weak bones of the ministers. The other time Nupeng called off their strike with the help of Ngige, now Ameachi is carrying out his duty deligently.

The Senators can do gra gra as they like. The fact is their opinion on the matter has no effect because the executive does not need their approval to do a project deemed right and beneficial to Nigerians whose safety is the priority of the govt.

As per Hadi, the runway requires more than resurfacing. It needs complete re-construction because it's badly damaged.

What's the big deal in shutting down the airport for three weeks to do a good job of a runway built for 20yrs but now in it 35th year?

giant of Africa with only 1 runway in the capital city, country of 180 million foools. with all the money that came into this country we have only one runway. Atlanta international airport has 5 runways and yet its not even capital of the US. Who allowed black people independence to start with?
