The Non-academic staff of the University of Ilorin has today decided to join the five-day warning strike embarked upon by the Non-Academic unions in the Nigerian Universities over the inability of the Federal Government to implement the 2009 Agreements with the unions.

Members of the University of Ilorin non-academic staff union are currently at the school gate scrutinizing any passing vehicle to check whether any worker wants to sneak into school.

The security at the school gate is currently very tight and students are hereby advised to go with their course forms or students identity card.

Reports also revealed that places such as the main and departmental library in the Institution has shut down as a result of the warning strike.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the unions in a statement stated that the warning strike became necessary in order for government to fully implement the 2009 FGN/Non-Teaching Staff Unions Agreements it freely entered into with the unions.

JAC said that a letter of the warning strike signed by Samson Ugwoke, SSANU President, Sani Suleiman, President of NAAT and Chris Ani, NASU President had been sent to the Minister of Education.

The report by op is accurate. Access to school gate is uneasy as you would be thoroughly searched, scrutinized and identified before access is granted. Registration, clearance and other activities besides lecturing is indefinitely suspended. Departments, faculties and other places that used to be bubbling with activities has suddenly become deserted. This buhari government is realy a change, but definitely not for good in many homes. Hope the government and the concerned unions resolve their differences so normal academic activities resume.
