Chief Whip, Senator Olusola Adeyeye calls the Senate to order for proceedings to begin.

Senator Binta Masi Garba‪ moves for the approval of votes and proceedings for Wednesday 18th January, 2017. Senator Gershom Bassey ‪seconds.


Senator Nelson Effiong (Akwa Ibom South) raises a Point of Order and officially decamps from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.



*Announcement*

Senate President, Bukola Saraki reads a Letter from President Muhammadu Buhari that he will be taking a 10-day leave effective from the 23rd January to 6th February 2017. ‪




*Point of Order*

Senator Utazi raises a Point of Order that a Joint Session of the National Assembly‪ must be briefed before Nigeria deploys troops to any nation.

Senate President Bukola Saraki ‪notes the Point of Order and guides the Senate accordingly on constitutional provisions regarding troop deployment.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu adds that the approval of the National Assembly is needed before the actual point of troop deployment to any nation. #Gambia

Minority Leader Senator Akpabio raises a‪ Point of Order and speaks on the decamping of Senator Effiong from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. Akpabio says that the PDP will review the earlier mandate they gave to Senator Nelson Effiong which he enjoys as a Distinguished Senator.



*Presentation of Reports*

1. The Report of the Joint Committees on Women Affairs, Health, Primary Health Care and Communicable Diseases on the oversight visit to Dalori IDP Camp is laid.

2. The Conference Committee Report with the ‪@HouseNGR on the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill ‪SB. 173 & 183 is also laid on the floor.

Confirmation of Nomination request by Mr. President on the Nomination of Mr. Umaru Ibrahim for re-appointment as Managing Director Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) is referred to the Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions for further input.

1. Adjourned Consideration of the ‪#INECBill Amendment 2017 SB. 231 & 234 ‪

Senate continues debate regarding direct/indirect primaries as well as Party Delegates to Ward, LG, State and National Convention. ‪#INECBill

Senate President, Bukola Saraki‪ reports progress that the closed-door session was necessary towards the proper management of the affairs of the Senate.

Senate Leader moves that all other matters on the Order Paper be stepped down to the next legislative day.  Minority Leader seconds.

 Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan moves that Plenary be adjourned to the next legislative day. Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio seconds.

Senate President Bukola Saraki puts the question and plenary is adjourned to Tuesday 24th January, 2017.
