Lagos Live by AloyEmeka6: 6:37pm On Nov 27, 2009
From the accent of the journalist, I can deduce she is Nigerian. Why disgrace us internationally like this?

Re: Lagos Live by Parohfrey(f): 7:41pm On Nov 27, 2009
truth is bitter?
Re: Lagos Live by babapupa: 7:52pm On Nov 27, 2009
I really wont label this a disgrace because it's another reminder that we still have a lot of work to do and we need to re-double our efforts
to reverse decades of backsliding, neglect and decay.

We'll get there one day, it's just a matter of time.

We don't need a reminder anymore. Why put this sort of thing on natinal TV?
Re: Lagos Live by sjeezy8: 8:43pm On Nov 27, 2009
Las giddi is still in a developing country so . . . . I dont know what this lady is asking for, considering those houses or shaks are illegally built in the first place. When lagos was capital and its past state government things like this were suppose to be knocked down as soon as they were built. Those places should be addressed LAST.

dumb lady, dumb video. . . .
Re: Lagos Live by AloyEmeka6: 9:23pm On Nov 27, 2009
The woman is not dumb. Why say that?

Quit being dramatic, we see worse on National and international TV every day, it's all over you tube and tons of sites and blogs. This is a freeking slum and illegal out post.

These are not minute or superficial issues and we can't afford to be unnecessarily simplistic and bunged down with TV image and aesthetic. We can talk about solutions ranging from lack of resources to poverty alleviation, education, health and communal outreach, dismantling of slums and illegal settlements, stemming and discouraging mass migration from towns and villages all over Nigeria, if you care that is,

Dealing with, providing for and managing 20 million people with meager resources is obviously not an easy task,

I didn't say it is an easy task but you are well aware that the internationals watching this will immidiately assume that's how we defecate in Nigeria. There is always a way to get around news like this without making it sound so graphic. Look at the title for God's sake: lack of decent toilets in Lagos Nigeria.
Re: Lagos Live by sjeezy8: 9:50pm On Nov 27, 2009
I dont know about any lack of decent toilets in Lagos. The reporter is very stupid indeed, the title should have said something else, directly relating to poverty like "No access to decent LIVING conditions for Lagos' underprivileged".

But then again Nigerian reporters dont know how to report shit and just look for shock value.

I don't think it's right to call her stupid  and the title could be from whoever posted the video on Youtube. I wouldn't doubt it if you tell me that Babapupa posted that video on youtube.

Moral decadence.
Re: Lagos Live by AloyEmeka6: 10:11pm On Nov 27, 2009
How is this moral decadence? Its not as if they have any other option. As a matter of fact, they believe that their feaces fertilize the water thereby making the fish so big. So much for Nigerian seafood. catfish is a scavenger tho, I am sure they will be having fun gulping the shit.

Re: Lagos Live by sjeezy8: 10:22pm On Nov 27, 2009
Lol lemmi tell da truth i just watched the vid before I cut it short. I mean wtf if the state was to build a proper facility im sure these people would carry on with their defecating everywhere. I dont care some people just have to be taught how to act.
Re: Lagos Live by Kobojunkie: 10:55pm On Nov 27, 2009
@Poster, why is she a disgrace? Did she make up the story? Do you have evidence that she lied in that video? I mean what exactly is her crime here? Telling the truth? Exposing a serious health issue?
Re: Lagos Live by back2back(f): 11:12pm On Nov 27, 2009
well done at this report.

These people are Nigerian and they deserve better.

Yet we wonder why we have so much crime, no much problems when we dont take care of our own people.

And there is this fellow showing us picture of Lagos, where only 'whites' are the one enjoying it.

Its not about teaching them how to act but in a country where a lot of educated people are jobless, its a pity the local government cannot find a single educated indigene who speaks Yoruba/egun to help the indigenes take advantage of the health center and also enlighten them on the health hazards of their living condition. That place is worse than a slum and I can see the future of those children running around there in a jiffy. Look at how the LG chairman is acting like its all good.

Are you not the same person asking how is it a moral decadence? You seems to have answered ur question. It is the height of societal moral decadence.

She is telling the truth quite alright but the way the video is titled can be misleading. A foreigner can easily assume that is the normal protocol in Nigeria regarding toilet habits. What does that say about our education as a nation when these people are complaining that language barrier is a big problem for them to mingle with the civilized world?
Re: Lagos Live by Nobody: 11:30pm On Nov 27, 2009
^^ from the way you're shouting here, one would assume every house in your village has flushing toilets.

It obviously is the protocol where those poor folk live. Those are indegenes of the state who have been forgotten.
We are always too happy to brush things under the carpet in Nigeria; rather than praising the journalist, you and others (the usual crowd) are calling for her scalp. What she has done has saved lives.

2nd world ke?
Nigeria is a developing nation and with the staggering population of Lagos State. . . . . .The video clip is not surprising.
You will find this in Mumbai, Bangkok, Jakarta and the favelas in Brazil.
Re: Lagos Live by sjeezy8: 12:10am On Nov 28, 2009
dont know what the big deal is
Re: Lagos Live by Nobody: 12:11am On Nov 28, 2009
well, not that one doesnt empathize with the people in question, but their community leaders also have to educate them on the dangers of such practices. Especially since the kids have been presenting with a lot of diarrhea.

That seems to be the general outhouse the reporter went to, which would be the toilet in any case, so its not as if the kids were just pooping anywhere in the water. That area was specifically set aside for bodily functions and the reporter seems to have gone there to film them going about their business. Though of course there should have been a screen or something around the place.

about fishing where you poop, well, they should stop, and their community leaders should educate them about the dangers of doing so.

public defecation (the other ugh part of the video), is a wider general problem which of course needs to be addressed. Quite as bad as stepping in random dog poo, or worse.

Shouldn't you have said this before instead of asking me about the shitting practices in my village?
