Oyo state bans violence against women

The Oyo state government, on Tuesday, signed into law a bill prohibiting violence against women in the state.The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Seun Abimbola; Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi; and Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Musah Abdulwasil, were present during the signing into law of the bill to Prohibit Violence Against Women in Public and Private Life, at the Governor's Office, Ibadan.

This development has been praised by people of the state. Prior to this development, governor Ajimobi has been under fire following his comments to protesting students of LAUTECH. The governor reportedly lost his cool and threatened the students while speaking to them over institution's closure for over 8 months.

I'm assuming violence against women was already illegal. Does the new law give harsher sentence for beating on woman like it would for children or elderly.

They are jobless lawmakers. What's the use of making a new law prohibiting something that is already prohibited?

Good of them even though its already prohibited. But it s better its drummed in men s ears again.
Also, women should not run their mouths or beat up men too.

Something already prohibited where? Even if there is a law of the federation against that it needs to be domesticated at the state level through passing a law by the state house of assembly. (Like the child rights act has been passed by NA but it still has to be domesticated by each state before it becomes a law in the state) Don't just jump to conclusion when you are not clear on anything ....... ask questions.
