@Moderators: If it's what skydancer sent me in an email that you deleted then I think you have something with him. Maybe jealousy? And why would you lie he was just pasting 'miserable links' when he means good for everyone, and he is a developer too. If you know how to find these links why don't you tell us. BESIDES, I never see any board rules for this side or are you just exercising your rights as an administrator. Remember that you can also stop being an administrator anytime. And it's so foolish to show your tongue to someone when you are not allowing the person to stand up to you by locking the thread? People are just keeping their mouth shut to prevent themselves from being banned. Nairaland is full of triplicate usernames. Even the spam bot has made me curse a number of times and I have never release an ounce of apology from NL. Is that what you want? Maybe it is. It's up to you to do whatever you want but just remember there are human rights.

What's the problem exactly? If you can explain it to me calmly, I can solve your problem.

I saw what skydancer wrote in a topic called Moderator! and I waz kinda moved by what he wrote. He sounded as if he was trying to help but his efforts were being rendered futile and Oyb was really very rude to him. No explanation given and Mavor said it too. I too have been wondering why so many people are complaining of banning and other things, so when I set foot in a board I read the rules. Skydancer is known for different kinds of help he has been rendering on the computer section though I once got a little problem with him on the religious section but that was just that. I don't think he is bad or rude. He just sent me an email on very useful sites to download ebooks and I checked it out and it was cool. Then he gave a link to some very useful sites for downloads and then a link to a browsing tool he wrote and some browsing configurations. I don't see anything concerned about what he said and NL being a warez forum. I'm retiring for the day and I really don't approve of his post being deleted so crudely. There is no need to make enemies in life especially when we still consider morality. I know you will know how best to settle this issue since this is your site and home. Some of these moderators really need to be reviewed. Thank you

NAIRALAND IS NOT A WAREZ FORUM

as i stated earlier, you are free to create your own blog or forum where you can share any and everything you wish to share. BUT YOU CANNOT DO IT HERE. there is always the very real risk of future litigation by aggrievd parties - perhaps you are unaware that

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piratebay

The Pirate Bay (commonly abbreviated to TPB or tpb) is a Swedish website that indexes BitTorrent (.torrent) files. It bills itself as "The world's most resilient bittorrent site"[1] and is ranked as the 105th most popular website by Alexa Internet.[2] The website is primarily funded with advertisements shown next to torrent listings. Initially established in November 2003 by the Swedish anti-copyright organisation Piratbyrån (The Piracy Bureau) the website is run as a separate organisation since October 2004. The website is run by Gottfrid Svartholm (anakata) and Fredrik Neij (TiAMO), who have both been charged with "assisting in making copyrighted content available" due to their involvement in The Pirate Bay.

On 31 May 2006, the website's servers in Stockholm were raided by Swedish police, causing it to go offline for three days.[3] According to the Los Angeles Times, The Pirate Bay is "one of the world's largest facilitators of illegal downloading", and "the most visible member of a burgeoning international anti-copyright or pro-piracy-movement".[4] On 15 November 2008, The Pirate Bay announced that it had reached over 25 million unique peers. The Pirate Bay has over 3,950,000 registered users, although registration is not necessary to download torrents.[5]

The Pirate Bay has been involved in a number of lawsuits, both as the plaintiff and as the defendant. On 17 April 2009, Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm and Carl Lundström were found guilty of assistance to copyright infringement and sentenced to one year in prison and payment of a fine of 30 million SEK (app. 3,620,000 USD; 2,385,000 GBP; or 2,684,000 EUR), after a trial of nine days. The defendants have appealed against the verdict and the judge was accused of bias. Despite the trial the website remained unaffected until 24 August 2009.[6]

On 17 November 2009, after a period where the tracker was offline, The Pirate Bay indicated that it would be permanently shut down with the hope that users will move fully away from trackers and adopt DHT and Peer Exchange as their primary source for locating peers.

that is what happens when you set up a warez site and do not bother to hide yourself.

kindly advise your friend to desist from posting links to pirated material/guides to freedom browsing on this site.

you both seem intelligent - so i fail to see why i have to point out such simple facts.

I was trying to give information to those who seek for it. It's hard for many people to harvest information from the internet today. The problems range from slow internet connections to faulty computers to credit card issues to no access to free downloads and much more. However I am quite aware that information is one of the most useful tool in a developing nation like Nigeria. This is why I have decided to help as many Nigerians as possible.

it looks like your friend is looking for adulation, or maybe he fancies himself a robin hood.

i use warez all the time, but i have no illusions about it - it is STEALING. I am usin something i didn't pay for. don't try to dress it up as anything else. its kind of odd that a 'developer' has such a casual attitude towards piracy. in other forums/blogs i frequent developers have nothing but vitriol for pirates, who are literally making them do something for nothing.

Lawyers target thousands of illegal file-sharers

Advertisement (Why?)
ACS:Law said it will be sending thousands of letters to alleged file-sharers of copyright infringement. The lawsuits will go out in the New Year to thousands of suspected file-sharers, asking them for a compromise to avoid dealing with it in court, averaging for several thousand pounds as a settlement.

ACS:Law said each case will be different, based on the amount of illegal copyright material downloaded, ranging between several thousand pounds, but said the compromise will typically be between £300-500.

Jaclyn Clarabut, from Which?, told BBC News that, "A lot are accused of downloading pornography," while other cases will be based on illegally distributing movies, games, and music.

"Many have never heard of peer-to-peer file sharing," said Jaclyn Clarabut, in reference to the 15,000 suspected file-sharers.

ACS:Law recently acquired two high court orders to obtain 30,000 IP Addresses with account details, including their name and address of the account owner, and is in the process of preparing three more court orders.

However, the technology to hide or spoof an IP Address, disguising the users true IP Address, is available on the Internet, which could cause for many consumers to be false accused of file-sharing. Andrew Crossley from ACS:Law said that this does not apply for file sharing purposes.

There are also cases where consumers do not password protect their router, and makes it easy for near-by users to simply connect to their Internet connection and illegally download copyright material.

When phone/internet broswing tricks and free ebook downloads come become peer-to-peer sharing or software piracy abe whatever? I am not so good in software but I know a bit about piracy. Wasn't skydancer the one warning people asking for cracks on the one of the computer boards. Even the rapidshare link he gave me is a shareware. And once u buy, it u can share it with any person as long as u no sell am. You can't cover up for what you did and if you can't accept that you were wrong, well that's up to you since you say that 'mistakes maketh experts'.(Maybe even when they don't learn from it undecided)
Also the people who are to be judged are those providing pirated programs not those who are providing the sites. Anyway, I'm not even ready for an argument. Everyone values his self-esteem highly and hurting it is hurting the person. Moreover, if you had created board rules like in the religious forum, No one will have to complain about anything.
May the Light of Elune shine upon you! cheesy cheesy cheesy

This issue of deleted threads and deleted posts has happened to me before. When what I posted was very harmless and not illegal. Seun( I assume you are the owner of nairaland---- Oluwaseun Osewa), I advice that you either get rid of the so-called bot or change your moderator. A situation where your posts or threads will be deleted without no reason given is not good. Look at foreign forums, this kind of thing doesn't happen.
Re: Where Are The Board Rules? by lightwalk(m): 6:44am On Nov 30, 2009
My replies have been deleted twice on this post. I don't think Seun really knows about this. It's possible some of his moderators are jealous. Imagine oyb referring to a foreign forum. Whatever it is I have a high level of tolerance. I know that every action in life springs out of a reason, so I truly do not blame anybody but it's good to be wise and shine ur eyes
