The Igbo tribe of Eastern Nigeria is one of the three leading ethnic groups in Nigeria. There are so many good and amazing things about them but like it is in many situations negative perception usually overshadow the good ones. This is the same with the Igbos. Nigerians have this perception about the Igbos which are usually false and have been over flogged. Jumia Travel shares some of these stereotypes which many Nigerians are tired of hearing.

Igbos Love Money

The love of money cannot be restricted to the Igbos alone. Hausa, Yorubas and the individuals belonging to the other over 200 ethnic groups in Nigeria love money. As far as any Nigerian earn their monies legally, there is no problem.

Igbos prefer to do business rather than going to school

Give to the Igbos, they are one of the most industrious and hardworking people in this country. Some persons have gone as far as saying that they are the ones who will help revamp the Nigerian economy via their Abba made goods. Despite this, not all Igbos prefer to do business. They have personalities like Chinua Achebe and Chief Alex Ekwueme who are well educated and known all over the world even though they are into business.

Marrying an Igbo woman is expensive

This may be slightly true because some Nigerians have complained about the demands of Igbo parents for wedding their daughters. Regardless, weddings are quite expensive in Nigeria and this cut across all tribes. So, before you date or marry Igbo girl, there are some things you should know so that you won’t complain when the bills start coming. Nigerians love to party and they do not mind borrowing money to celebrate a talk-of-the-town wedding and lodge in one of the best hotels in Lagos after the wedding.

Igbos don’t have respect

Yorubas have been tagged the most respectful tribe in Nigeria. Hence, oftentimes, many Yorubas brand  Igbos as disrespectful. The fact is anyone can be disrespectful. It is unfair to single out the Igbos as disrespectful. Nigerians have heard this so many times and it has become a cliche.

All Igbo girls are fair skinned

Yes, many Igbo girls are fair skinned. But you can not generalize and just conclude that all of them are light in complexion. There are also many dark-skinned Igbo girls around.

Remove assistance from federal government, no tribe can beat Igbo in any human endeavour.

Just mention that sector you think. Unless the Igbos are not into it. It's not bragging. People do have some inherent characteristics and NEVER GIVE UP is one undeniable characteristics of the Igbos.

The Igbo boy selling gala on the street has a strong will to own gala factory. He puts his energy into whatever he believes in.

That's who we are.

The major problem fighting the igbo race is enormous but the major is complexity issue. Though they are hard working, beautiful and industrious but with all they still believe they are not measured up with society. This has led them into many crimes and social vices and also made them have mechanical pride and ego (seeing themselves better off even in foolishness).

The mechanical pride and ego had also created and made them artificial enemies to all other tribes, their kins men, neighbors, their family members and even to themselves. They want to oppress at all cost even at the detriment of their soul or life.

They easily form caucus any and everywhere with the sole of alienating others and the first to shout stigmatization, ostracisation and the rest.

They need to see beyond complexity and see others the way they want to be seen and take others as families and also ready to work with others.

You try my man, but trying to justify people perception about igbo is nothing. We all know all these things u stated above. Just help us beg them to stop destroying our image abroad. Drug business is no business, its shortcut to life destruction. We are tired of malaysia and indonesia news.

That money issue is the one that makes me see people as fools...
I once dated this yoruba gal that any week or 2weeks dat i didnt give her money or atleast recharge card.. we will live in marlice till i resolve it with what she wants.
And the funny thing is with all this money and recharge card im still the one to be calling always.

So i dnt know why one tribe would be tagged money lovers. I once dated this warri girl too 4 months and she also loves money.

EVERYBODY LOVES MONEY NIGERIANS SHOULD STOP THINKING DUMB!.

The fair skin thing is not a generalization but a fact. If I come across a fair skinned person in Nigeria or abroad who is a Nigerian, he is either Igbo or from Akwa Ibom, and some from Cross River. I have never ever come across a light skinned Yoruba man or hausa man( not fulani) in my life...not once except they are mixed! But I have across countless of light skinned Igbo men and some Ibibios. I use Igbo men as a minimum barometer since Igbo women are more light skinned on average than the men.
