President Donald Trump has issued an executive order for a wall to be built along the southern US border with Mexico.
He also signed an action to strip funds from US cities that are sanctuaries for undocumented immigrants.
Mr Trump said in a TV interview that Mexico would "absolutely, 100%" reimburse the US for his wall.
Building a 2,000-mile barrier along the Mexican border was one of his key pledges in the election campaign.

"We've been talking about this right from the beginning," he said as he signed the actions during a ceremony at the Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday.
Mexicans might disagree about a lot - especially on the political and economic direction of the country.
But if there is one thing around which almost all of Mexico can coalesce, it is their profound opposition to the US border wall.
From the Mexican side of the border, it is seen as a policy which is intended to break up families and prevent ordinary people from looking for seasonal work in the north - the kinds of jobs, they note, which prop up the US economy.
Others go further, and consider the entire border wall to be a racist and xenophobic policy.
Either way, Mexicans from the president's office to the factory floor agree that the country will not pay for a wall they don't want and didn't call for.
They say they won't finance the project either at the time of building or in the future.
That's not to say some Mexicans aren't in favour of change in terms of bilateral immigration.
Many are aware of the risks that their countrymen take by crossing illegally into the US, especially through dangerous border regions such as the Arizona desert.
Rather than a wall with their neighbour to the north though, they want to see comprehensive immigration reform including guest worker programmes and temporary work visas.
The executive orders are among several expected on immigration and border security this week.
He is next expected to announce immigration restrictions from seven African and Middle Eastern countries, including Syria, Yemen, and Iraq.
Mr Trump is also likely to halt access to the country for some refugees - until the vetting process can be made more rigorous.
Earlier on Wednesday, Mr Trump told ABC News that Mexico would pay for the wall, which he has previously estimated would cost $8bn (£6.4bn).
"We're going to be starting those negotiations relatively soon. And we will be - in a form - reimbursed by Mexico," Mr Trump said.
"I'm just telling you that there will be a payment. It will be in a form - perhaps a complicated form."
"It's also going to be good for Mexico", he added.

I almost choked my ribs laughing as I saw your post.
But come to think of it, man, no country seem to have enough economic balls to resist Trump (except maybe Russia) not even china. In fact US-China ratio of trade volume is like 3:1 in dollar terms. So when the US coughs, China listens, how much more the seriously US-dependent Mexico?
They will gladly pay for the wall when Trump makes them an offer they cannot refuse. My opinion though.

pchukwudi:Sorry to tell you your opinion is absolutely wrong. Tell us how Mexico will pay for the wall ?. Tell me how the Trumpy One can force Mexico to pay for the wall. If you think the wall can stop Mexicans from coming to US, that means you know much about US. Have you ever heard of Underground tunnels being built by drug smugglers all over Mexico to US to ferry their drugs. Have you ever heard of Rio Grande in Texas\Mexico border ?. It's just a monumental waste of money and resources. Until Mexico economy improves, no one can totally stop Mexicans from coming to US.

You are just not getting it.
The cost of paying for that wall (even if not on a long term basis) will far outweigh the cost of anti-mexico policies that may be on the table if mexico refuse to pay for the wall. Just ask Cuba how it was.
Trump is master deal maker and negotiator. He has done it all his life. Mexico thus know better than play a stubborn resistance role to pro-American movement on immigration.
By the way, the aim of the wall was not to TOTALLY eliminate illegal immigration from mexoco, but to reduce it drastically and make the process of illegal migration to US look so not worth it for most mexicians.
Plus remember, those walls will have gates and windows. So there will always be mexician immigrants to the US. But Trump says they must be legit at least MOST OF THE TIMES. Not the other way round.

pchukwudi:There are no gates and Windows on the wall my friend. I have driven to Mexico from San Diego numerous times. There are roads network that you will drive through and back to Mexico and US with ICE checkpoints. He is just talking to the nativitists in his right wing party. Less I forget, most of California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico were taken from Mexico by America. Where are the American Indians now, they are the Aborigines and most of them are in reservation land across America now. By the way, The Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said the wall if built will be hundred percent paid for by America. You can't force a water out of a Stone.

First, "gates and windows" mean entry and exit points. Go and learn figures of speach if you don't know one.
Second, Ryan has been known for his liberal-leaning sentiments right from the days of Obama. So his opinions don't count much in the core conservative circles that Trump front.
Third, you never believed that Trump would be president. So no problem if you don't believe that mexico would pay for the walls.

pchukwudi:That is the problem with people like you who don't know what's happening in US except by googling. I am more patriotic than a three time married, no tax paying demagogue. I have seen presidents come and go growing up under the Gipper and trump is the worst. You have to be in US to see the kind of opposition against him. You can Holla all you want, his four years will fly by in a jiffy. When you google and you think you are an American political experts, it says a lot about you.
