Will fiscal federalism make them change overnight?

A criminal is a criminal, regardless of the system in place.

Peace they have not, how can they give one?

Is it not the same IOCs that will drill the oil? Will that change the fact that your people will remain restive?

Stop blaming Peter for the sins of Paul.

When they move their headquarters to the west(Lagos State) which i'm sure is their next hub, they shouldn't come drill oil in Rivers State.

They don't drill onshore anymore

So Shell is the FG that owes the people good roads, health facilities, clean water, clean environment etc?If my employees are being kidnapped, pipelines blown, repaired and blown again, why keep running at a loss by staying there?

The passionate response of oil company workers is an indication that the activities of Niger Delta youths are unpopular. Some of those goading the youths to disruptive action are not in the locality for on the spot assessment; the IOC employees are on the ground. It is purely business. If you are a businessman and your business is not being protected, you cannot be forced to stay.

The annoying one is that "marching ground" that they ask companies to pay. Its so annoying. All companies must pay to the youth group or they disrupt your business. All companies have MOPOl by force. The cost of doing business in the Niger Delta is outrageous.

I remember when a road was being constructed in Gokanna LGA, the youth came every day to collect money, not small money o. At a point, another group started coming. The company refused to pay them and they kidnapped their staff. How can you develop with this attitude?

Why won't they relocate? Your kidnap their employees, bomb their infrastructures despite the social and community development programmes. What else do you want? You sabotage their pipelines. Forcados is down; they repaired it, it didn't last one week, these fools bombed it again. Oil companies are not breaking even... The IOCs are just bearing the losses due to strong financial support from their parent company. While some of the indigenous oil companies have packed up, some hace laid off some staff and some are unable to export their crude because they evacuate through just one route.

Only those who are not in the industry would think they just drilling and produce oil without giving back to the society. That's a big lie! They have massive community development projects they embark upon..but like the typical greedy Nigerians that they are, tbey prefer cash gift to development. And when they get the money, they lavish it on women and ogogoro and then come back for more. The oil companies are not fools.
You want them to recruit you by force when they already have a sizable number of you working for them already. The current business climate doesn't favor bringing in more people but una no wan hear...they must just recruit you anyhow.
E&P business is not for children. Investments are massive and stakes are high...No company will put you on the rig to work because you're an indigene and you don't have the requisite qualifications and skills. Cos one mistake from while on the rug will kill others, destroy the massive investments of the company. The. the company will start paying fines and litigation fees upandan. Make these yoots dey think na.

Bunch of misfits who think the oil companies owe them for discovering oil at their backyards. They owe you nothing. You were not there when they pump in a lot of money to explore for the crude..daily rig rate is around 1 million dollars and yet some jobless yoots think the oil companies should lick their ass... nonsense.
Well said.

If you in support of Shell's relocation from Niger Delta, hope you will also support Shell's oil exploration in Niger Delta?

If you can't stay in Niger Delta to do your business while is solely dependent on oil, then you should have no business in the region

You asked for it and now you got it...when they leave you guys will realize that no indigenous oil company has the deep pockets required for development of virgin oil fields!

Shell pulled out from Warri years back and now they're pulling out from PH maybe to concentrate on their offshore wells.

The truth must be told once and for all, the youth of Niger Delta are fools for not holding their Governors, IOC community reps and chiefs to ransom.

The IOC did not sign contract with Niger delta to explore oil nor did they receive OML / OPL license from Niger Delta host communities. Where do you think IOC get money to develop fields ? PSC contract / JV agreement with NNPC are mostly funded by these IOC with huge risk on their heads. IOC do huge CSR and the host community reps/ chiefs takes everything.

Also DPR don't even have the exact volumes of crude oil produced and exported from Nigeria, Note sealine valves at export jetty/ SBM can't be operated without DPR rep in attendance and also the UFM / control room is also to be monitored jointly by the IOC/ DPR rep.

NLNG Finima is another thing I will remain silent about. Nigeria is a banana republic !!

high cost of operating there, insecurity and the most worrying part is that they have been divesting from Niger delta.

Rubbish

High cost of operation? Then tell the FG to fix the ports in the region and that case will be closed.

Insecurity? Tell FG and Shell to develop the region and that issue will be address.

Is Iraq, Agfan, Yemen etc more safe than Niger Delta?

This is why we need resource control because if you cannot stay in my region and do your business, it means you don't have any business in my region.

You haven't addressed any of the points raised by him.

BTW Shell will keep its offshore sites, sell the others to the highest bidder and walk away. Local jobs will will lost and all ancillary industries that lean on spillover revenues will die. The company that replaces shell is certainly not going to match it's local investment. Then locals will understand that t value of oil still in the ground is zero.

Warri is a cautionary tale. The locals can't have their cake and eat it.

The truth is that most major oil companies will relocate to Owerri in the next 10 years if the political instability and cultism continues in Rivers State. Already high ranking staffs have quietly relocated their families to Owerri.

Ironically Shell was moved from Owerri to Port Harcourt decades ago.

If you grant Niger Delta resource control or independence, they would kill themselves, just like South Sudan. The first argument would be the capital-Ijaw, Ishekiri or Uhrobo land?

These criminals comes into communities and buy few people to cover their wickedness.

Since you travelled to various countries, can you categorically tell me that devastations caused by oil explorations in those countries were not well addressed?

Since the FG were never sincere, the oil companies decides to buy few people to cover their dirty deals.
