A Nigerian soldier, Egbechi Oze, has been sentenced to jail by an army general court martial sitting in Maiduguri, Borno state after he fled his duty post.

Premium Times reports that the private was absent for 270 days when he fled his post because of Boko Haram and took refuge in a state in the south east. The soldier was among those that were recorded as missing after Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military base in Gwoza.
The court said that in spite of the fact that Oze had abandoned his duty post for almost a year, he still continued to enjoy his benefits.

He was charged for not accounting for his rifle and cache of ammunitions he signed to be in his possession during the attack on Gwoza but was acquitted of the charges.
This was because he lost possession of them when he was abducted by Boko Haram before soldiers finally attacked the place.

He was sentenced to 14 months in prison and the court reiterated that he stands a chance of dismissal and refusal to be readmitted into the army for his court martial.

Who want to die for a country like Nigeria? Even the so-called general turned messiah that promised to lead the war in the front is no where to be found. Today it is either he is running to London or tomorrow, West Germany ( cheesy).

He took a wise decision.... I rather spend 14monts in jail than be sentenced to eternity in the world of the dead...

Funny one. After fleeing he was still enjoying salary. Well he's still better off in prison, than being in the belly of shekau.

@ OP, WHICH ONE IS " HIDING IN IGBOLAND " ? HIDING IS HIDING, MUST YOU BE A TRIBALIST?

Abandonment of someone duty post is a big crime in military because you just open your team to danger.

If you are a blind Buhari supporter, Mr. Innocent Idibia is not your problem. President Buhari is. Face him and tell him to up his game and deliver on his electoral promises. You did not elect him to run Nigeria catastrophically on auto-pilot as he is currently doing. At any rate, if you are a patriot, your loyalty will always be to Nigeria and not to any President.

Though a soldier lives to protect his honour the country, I guess you realised rather too late that you were fighting for a just course for an unjust country.
Nigeria as country doesn't deserve such sacrifice.

Please do not blame the man. He is a human being. He must have joined the Army due to lack of white collar jobs in the country. Why him no go run from Boko, when the Nigerian government did not provide the equipment to fight Boko Haram. The man run to his home town in the east to take refuge o. 80% of the soldiers in Maiduguri are Southerners.
